Modified Controller mapping | Using the new update

This afternoon I modified my controller mappings by changing the X (cross) button functionality to the R2 and I was absolutely surprised how well this works for button-hitting and meter-pitching!

The sense of pushing down on the trigger to hit really does add an element of engagement to the simulation of virtually swinging a bat. (In my opinion, swinging a real bat starts with the knob but ends with the use of the top hand index finger via the bat grip.) The sense of griping the bat as you start your swing is also somewhat captured via the index finger. There's also a little deadzone in the R2 which allows for a bit of rhythm pulsing as the pitcher starts his wind up.

Here's what you need to do:

Simply go into [Accessibility] / [Settings] and adjust button assignments for X to R2.

Note: (This also works very well for the Vita... it even make it easier to hold.)

    Cheers!

That's interesting. I might try it at some point! Especially if my X button starts to wear out.

The only issue I can see is that will cancel your steals if you have them cued up.

The buttons switch so X would do whatever R2 does.

Yeah it would be to hard for me to get used to. Id push X to throw home and my guy would just dive. I think R2 is dive anyway.

This is a great suggestion and I LOVE the idea of R2 as the swing button but would never be able to figure out how to use x when on the basepaths as needed.

It takes some adapting to but I'm really digging it so I don't mind adjusting to make it work. (It's really not as complicated as it may seem either.)

The only way I can see this working is if you switch to analog throwing since you would have to remember that R2 is home every time and that might be a stretch since the other bases will remain on the same buttons.

I'm sure for most people it will be impossible to use it as a viable option since it changes the logical button layout.

Call me odd but I wouldn't come on here and share it if I didn't think there was another oddball out there like me that would enjoy the change and challenge.)

Thanks for sharing this great idea. I had no clue that they added controller mapping in the latest update for PS4. It would be hard for button throwing, but I dig the idea for hitting/pitching. Thank you!!

I use analog throwing anyway. I'll definitely be trying this idea.

Tried this out for a bit and it's just not going to work for me. The small deadzone on the R2 trigger doesn't give the precision I want when using zone. I played a round of CoTW and was a bit late on most fastballs. It's only the difference between hitting the ball to right center and right field. Going back to X I was pulling some like usual. I tried R1 as well and didn't like that either.

I wanted to try this mostly because I get hand strains near my thumb when playing The Show for a while. Pressing R2 would help since it's the constant mashing on X that does it. Might mess with it some more, but not something I would want to use in a competitive scenario.

So this is an update for the entire system, or just for MLB The Show?

Like, do I change this in the PS4 menu, or in the MLB The Show menu?

I dont want to switch the controls if it does it for the entire system, because X would be an awful trigger button in CoD.
