Consequences to using Starting pitchers as Relievers?

Hi All,

Quick question regarding using starters as relievers in MLB The Show.. Last year I played several years of franchise mode and it turned out I stock piled all of these good young pitchers.

Is there any consequence to using a starting pitcher and putting them in the bullpen as a reliever?

For example, when you scout/draft players you usually select them as a starter or reliever. Are "releiver" pitchers better out of the bullpen then starters?

Just curious if there are any consequences in the show for doing this..

This is actually a good question.

In my Royals franchise on MLB 14, Jeremy Guthrie was doing horribly. I tried everything to get him off his cold streak but it never worked. So I saw Kyle Zimmer was killing it in AAA and brought him up. I put Guthrie in the bullpen, and he's been doing pretty well. He's still on a cold streak but I don't think for much longer.

I dont think it matters much. If you edit a starter to reliever their OVR does drop though.

Its not universal but typically the relievers have higher clutch ratings and lower stamina. So when RP are rated for overall, clutch is worth more to a RP than a SP. Thats what Ive noticed, same with CP. Clutch is worth even more to them than other pitchers.

This is good to know, since this is EXACTLY what happened to arguably the greatest closers of all time: Dennis Eckersley and Mariano Rivera.

most relievers are failed starters.

Yep, I through sidearm and was recruited to college as a late inning reliever. Never had a desire to start.

Shouldnty have said all. Hell i might rather be a closer. But id say a big majority of people start off wanting to be starters and realize they cant whether thats in highschool, minors or after they get to the majors.

If I have another starter that is MLB ready but not as good as the 5 in my rotation, he becomes my long reliever.
