Yes it works great A&S, just like MVP 2005 but I have to say it's more balanced in The Show. I hope next year they'll implement the Pro Yakyuu hitting mechanism for a complete set of batting modes.

I played 3 games last night and had two HRs in each, and never used Directional Hitting. So I can confirm that you can still have success with just a Timing Hitting approach.

This game is fricken' amazeballz BTW!
I hit back to back homeruns in my first game using it and I almost never use the influence. The direction portion of that mode is meant to be used situationally and not on every at bat or pitch.

Armor-How exactly do you use this function? Specifically the use of the left stick. Do you react to the pitch location by moving the left stick to the zone after the pitch is thrown? Meaning you track the pitch and move rather than pre-loading or holding the stick in a zone and waiting for a pitch in the zone you're looking for. Hope that makes sense.

So if you use directional hitting with a right handed batter left would be pull right would be push up would be sac fly and down would be groundball?

Why is meant to be used situationally? Every on bat, every pitch is a different situation. Then it's the cpu D alignment you may want to expose or a weak side of it. You're not just influencing the hit. It's your intention to target left/right/up/down on the field. I know SCEA uses also the word influence for it but it's more than that imo.

I hold the stick left/right/up/down, waiting for the pitch and hit the swing button (power, normal, contact depending on the pitch count). All these with the left stick held until the ball is in the air.

Wait. We need to hold the left stick until we swing???

SCEA stated that we can pre-load/pre-choose the side by just "clicking" the L stick to the desired direction, but I'm used to MVP 2005 hitting and it's easier for me to hold it all the way until the swing.

I am giving Directional Hitting a shot, but it's a tough change from Zone. It's hard not to push the left stick down on the low pitches. Other than trying to hit the ball to the right side when you have someone on 2nd with no outs, when should I try to influence a ground ball? I've just been using no direction early in the count, and then when I'm ahead in the count I may try to press up on L to try to get a HR. I've only played two games, hit one HR in a 14 inning game, and no HR in the second game.

Probably depends a lot on your player, and I think Ramone said in a video that it's best to align your directional hitting with the hitter's tendency.

For instance, with someone like Mark Teixeira I'll probably try to pull a fly ball (from the left side) to get it over the short porch. With a speedy left-handed hitter, I might try to slap a ground ball between short and third. Or if you do a hit-and-run you might want to try to hit a grounder through the vacated area.

Because nothing I have read or seen so far makes me see the benefit of it being used at every at bat or every pitch.

There is, at least so far, no evidence that it improves or detracts from the actual contact you make. Just because you try to influence a outside pitch to the opposite field doesn't necessarily mean you make better contact or have a better opportunity to hit it than if you did not try to influence the hit.

Maybe I am wrong, but watching the streams and the developers who used this batting method I can't remember any of them using it on every batter and if it actually improved the chance of getting a hit you would think they would always use it.

Exactly. If I am in a good hitters count (0-0, 1-0,2-0, 2-1, 3-1) I will look for a certain pitch and zone and react to the pitch instead of selling out pre loading it. Therefore if say for example I am looking for a fastball up in the zone I will react to hit with the left stuck pinch up while simultaneously pressing my X button. If the pitch is down but still a wheelhouse I don't use te stuck and merely press the swing button.

It is so versatile. I love it.

I use mostly zone with PCI but last year's MLB after you either hit the ball or miss it would show a quick graphic of where you placed the PCI and where the ball landed in the zone.

Can you not bring that up anymore this year?

I hope my post made sense.

I haven't been able to play yet thx to excessive and unnecessary drama at work.

Does directional hitting actually influence the balls hit as far as grounders/fly balls? Anybody know if it gives bonuses or penalties at the programming level like guess pitch does? Appreciate the help.
