Re: Learning your lesson...go and play!

Its seems I am not alone in trying to beat my addiction to finding the "mythical" perfect sliders and rosters. I decided this year is going to be different and I am going to play my franchise and have FUN. I am doing a cubs franchise I did create the cubs real minor league players and prospects. I also imported the top 100 prospects and put them on the correct teams. I used the spreadsheet in the roster section to re-rate all the cubs players and top 100 prospects to the Hybrid ratings. I started my Franchise last night and played 2 games and it feels great knowing that I am not going to play Opening day over and over again.
I look forward to the future of my franchise with the twist and turns that my franchise will take. So what if a dumb trade happens I will create a story for why it happened. I also look forward to the fake players coming up and making a difference. I have also decided to make my own thread over at The show nation in the franchise section to keep a log of my franchise and add a extra element to it. It lets me give a back story to my alternate world of my franchise.

I'll probably start my franchise (or season, I have not decided) before too long. I began with RTTS though and am using the Dynamic Difficulty to find my sweet spot this year.

Since I am also doing a full Franchise in Out of The Park Baseball (which, if your a guy who laments stat tracking in The Show, you should check out) I am doing my Show franchise with player lock.

I will either assign a position to each day of the week and will player lock that postion on that day (excluding pitcher and catcher) or I will simply cycle player lock through all 9 positions.

I figure this will keep me involved on a game by game basis. And since I will only player lock a player once every week to ten days I should not have a too much of an impact on any one player's stats.

Great OP, esp. with regard to sliders...

This title is always so solid out of the box, that all you really need to do is adjust things one or two clicks above or below default anyway...

Therefore, there's no reason to restart for the occasional to rare "one click adjustment" within Franchise play...

As far as the rosters go:

I play as one starter / play all those starts / sim the rest, so it's easy for me to play one "test franchise" pre OSFM to get my skills back / set those last slider adjustments / lock in DD / etc. and then when OSFM drops, switch to this year's team of choice and try to rack up a few seasons...

All WITHOUT succumbing to the "restart itch"...

          PLAY ball!

Perhaps there is a workaround. I moved on from the issue after discovering the problem as I found my own (less than ideal) solution.

I know I had a MLB 14 Franchise setup using an OSFM Hybrid roster still in 2014 Spring Training and when I migrated this Franchise into MLB 15, all the injured players migrated into being these generic players. Then I was unable to modify these players. I was hoping to rename them and perhaps tinker with their new generic likenesses, but I could not. But my whole reason for doing all this was to export about a dozen 2015 Rookies from the roster and import them into my 2015 SCEA roster for my up and coming Season. The export/import process went well for my rookies. But I ignored the injured players as that appeared to be too much work. But even now in my 2015 Season file, I am unable to edit the likenesses of my 2015 rookies (guys like Chris Bryant). I made the Diamondback's 3B Tomas too fat and I would like to change the hair of Rockies pitcher Jon Gray. But I can't in this build.

But as mentioned above, the roster makers probably have a workaround that I missed.

Re: Learning your lesson...go and play!

I have never been one to play around with the sliders so I am good on that part.
However OSFM I will wait for, mostly because I like to play deep into the franchise modes. I probably won't get as deep this year because I will be playing more games, but after taking a year off from the game I am looking forward to this year! I may run a couple this year honestly. A Reds one, a random team fantasy draft, and I will probably rebuild a team.

I am playing one with the Reds right now but that is just to get some games under my belt!

Re: Learning your lesson...go and play!

I hear you OP. Every year I had a similar problem where I would get the game the day it comes out and not play it for two weeks because I would always start off by creating fictional rosters for certain teams for my franchise. It would always kill me not to play the game right away but I was pretty stubborn about not playing until everything was set.

Thanks to the new option of year to year saves I no longer have to worry about this. I can't tell you how much I appreciate this feature.

Thread has inspired me to just start my franchise now... Waiting a whole month does seem a bit long, gonna just download the top 150 prospects and start my Nats franchise.

I completely agree. In past years, I've obsessed so much over getting just the right slider combo, that I forget to actually, you know, enjoy the game. Absolutely nothing against OSFM, those guys do great work, but yeah, I'm just not waiting until May to start a franchise. I plan on getting my opening day 25-man ready this weekend. I'm not so obsessive about the minors, but I do keep up with each team's real 25-man.

For some reason I just don't feel right starting my Mariners season before their actual season starts. I decided to just do a post-season tournament for the weekend to act as my spring training. Then Monday I will get into the season.

I exported the Mets top 30 prospects, Kris Bryant, and Buxton from 2014 and imported them into 2015. Updated their ages by 1 year.

Next I will update contracts for 25 man rosters and then off I go!

So I still can't let go completely but I am making progress :-)

I too am learning to not worry about having 100% accurate rosters before starting a franchise. As soon as you play the first game in your franchise it's already nothing like what is going on in real life anyway.

I finally had that epiphany last year at the age of 35. Took my long enough! 😄

My franchise exists in its own little world and the only thing I will worry about is stopping ludicrous CPU trades from happening, although, if they make sense in the confines of my franchise world I will let them ride.

I'm going to take this advice and run with it. But....

I would like to have Opening Day rosters. I'm somewhat a newbie at this - help me out. So, I can wait till Monday/Tuesday when SCEA releases a roster update? What if I'd like to have the top prospects like those from this 150 prospects roster that is out there? Can I combine the updated Opening Day roster with these top prospects roster?

                                Thanks for the advice.
