Would like to see MVP's 'Hitter's Eye' make an appearance in The Show

It's the only thing missing. And I think, if it were in the game, it would be just the thing to help me find a comfortable groove with zone/cursor hitting.

For those that don't remember it, the mechanic was that when the pitcher delivered, the ball would briefly flash a particular color to indicate what type of pitch was coming. Red for fastball, blue for changeup, green for curve, etc.. The value of a particular hitter's Hitter Eye rating would determine the frequency of the display, the length of the color flash, that kind of thing. The whole purpose of this was to simulate a real batter's ability to pick up a pitch type from the pitcher's hand, whether it be from the way the pitcher was holding the ball at release, or how the ball was spinning, and so forth.

Why doesn't The Show use this? To me, it was an absolutely brilliant addition to the hitting game in MVP, and I would love to see it in Sony's game. Would make me a very happy boy, indeed.

I enjoyed the hitters eye in MVP, but to me there was one glaring issue with it.

Some pitchers rely on a very limited repertoire of pitches. Mainly RPs. Something like a selection of fastball/curve and that's it. The hitters eye in MVP made those pitchers basically worthless as it ruined the element of surprise when a curve was coming in. For example, say a RP had 3 different fastballs and a curve. You could sit on the fastballs because if it wasn't purple (or whatever color a curve was), then you knew it was a fastball. To me the only real difficult pitchers in MVP were those that had numerous off-speed pitches that were all the same color, yet broke different directions.

I think the only real way The Show could implement this without making it too easy to hit would be to have one color for all off-speed pitches. But honestly, the hitter's eye made hitting exceptionally easy in MVP. I think I hit 85 HRs with Ruben Sierra on the hardest difficulty one season. I just sat fastball and if the pitch wasn't white, I laid off it until I had 2 strikes.

Perhaps with today's better consoles and televisions you can tell the pitch type by the actual behavior / trajectory of the pitch.

(Gosh this brings back memories. That year's Cubs had a rotation of Mark Prior, Kerry Wood, Greg Maddox, Carlos Zambrano and whomever...)

I would like some sort of system but I'd like it to be very minimal. I do not like to use guess pitch as I find it to be almost cheating. I'd really just like something that lets me know when an offspeed pitch is heading for the dirt. Seriously, I struggle with pitches in the dirt because I don't have the hitter's depth perception and any low offspeed pitch just looks like a fastball at the bottom of the strike zone. By the time I realize it's a ball in the dirt, I've already swung through, and I'm heading to first on a dropped third strike.

So, I guess a system that lets you know when an obvious ball is thrown would be welcome. The hitter's vision attribute should play into this as well. More accomplished hitters who don't normally chase bad pitches could be tipped off earlier and more often. Hitters who normally chase pitches out of the strike zone might get a later notification or none at all. I just don't want it to be flashy like what 2k had. Something nice and clean looking would be nice.
