    Trade Strategy Question

When trading for prospects/young guys (guys below age 25) what would be the lowest OVR you would want at each POT level?

Would an 18 year old player with a OVR of 47 and a B POT be to low to amount to anything?
Or a 20 year old with B POT and OVR of 46.
Or would you take a 24 yet old with a C POT that has an OVR of 58?

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. First year of getting not a franchise, usually a RTTS guy.

    Thanks

    Re: Trade Strategy Question

I only try to trade for prospects who are a B or A potential and I usually follow this system I made up:

18 year old=Always try to trade for them, regardless of overall

19 year old=Must be at least 55 overall

20 year old=Must be at least 60 overall

21 year old=Must be at least 65 overall

22 year old=Must be at least 68 overall

23 year old=Must be at least 70 overall

24 year old-Must be at least 72 overall

25 year old = Must be at least 75 overall

This is only the system that I use and just my opinion. Hope it helped!

Cool. Thanks. That's exactly what I was looking for.

Started an M's franchise last night and was toying around seeing what I could get for some of the older players that we still have that are a C POT and mid 70s OVR.

        Re: Trade Strategy Question

What I've noticed is that if you want to try to get a younger prospect who is a semi-low overall, you're still going to have to give up a 75+ player who is possibly a starter for you. Another tip that I use, is take into account the players that are going to be in the draft and positions that you have multiple good prospects at.

For example, if you have 2 2B prospects like this:
Prospect One - 23 years old, B potential, 67 overall
Prospect Two - 21 years old, B potential, 65 overall

In this case, I would keep the second prospect because he is 2 years younger and only 2 overall lower. So now you can use the first prospect as an extra in trades to get more, or better, prospects in return.

          Re: Trade Strategy Question

This is not a knock on the game as I love it to death but after messing with the trading system as well as drafting I feel that prospects are still not only too plentiful but are incredibly easy to obtain.

I only simmed 2 years and I already had pretty good A potential prospects for 4 positions and 1 starting pitcher.

Good advice! I'm going to try using some of that logic in my Braves franchise. I think it's cool to build a solid team, be able to make the playoffs by simming, and then actually play the playoffs to try and win it all.
