Any tips for reading pitches?

Does anybody have any tips or strategies on reading pitches while batting? I for whatever reason cannot get it down this year. I think it's much harder this year. I look like an idiot sometimes flailing around up there at pitches in the dirt.

Take the 1st pitch.

For whatever reason, this year in the game a fastball down the middle 1st pitch = pop up or ground out if you swing

Same Fastball location on 3rd pitch = base hit

Other than that pick half the plate, not with the stick, just with vision and look for one or two pitch types you like to come into that half
