Yeah, I agree with you on the chess match and strategy of it. Mentioning Dusty Baker and his quote on the difference reminded me of something either Jim Leyland or Sparky Anderson (Leyland himself or sharing Anderson's sentiment) said about managing in the NL vs AL, when given the choice he would rather manage in the AL because he doesn't have to make any tough decisions about the pitcher's spot in the lineup. He can just set his lineup and then when his pitcher gets tired/shelled/trouble, he can just go make a change...none of the double-switching, who's up in the next inning, who's glove can I afford to lose for a better bat, etc.
Curious about what you guys are going to do?

It's not what we want. The players union wants the DH for the extra jobs and that's sixteen extra starting salary contracts usually given to veterans. There's probably going to be expansion to even out the leagues, hopefully then the interleague goes back to just dates in June and the DH debate can go away for a while longer.Comment

I will do what I always do: turn the DH on for the NL. Whenever I start a franchise, I always end up doing this.
Maybe it is because I grew up watching AL baseball (Jays fan), but I always get more excited watching AL games. Until a few years ago, I found many NL games boring because the pitcher was often an easy out. Playing Tony LaRussa baseball, I think I played a game as just about every AL team a few times. But the NL teams? Not much. I simply disliked the idea of the pitcher hitting.
I realize there is much more strategy involved in non-DH games, and I am getting used to it, but I just prefer the DH option.
I will admit that with the DH, I do not utilize my bench as much.Comment
