I was playing a franchise game against the Reds. Late in the game, Brandon Phillips came in to pinch hit for their pitcher. All is good at this point. It ended up being a double switch pulled by Bryan Price, and Phillips stayed in the game... at CATCHER. It's not even like the Reds had used both of their catchers, as Bryan Pena was still on the bench. This is the only example I fluidly remember the details of, however I am sure it happened a few other times as well with other players being placed in absurd positions. The only other one I can think of was Big Papi at 3rd I think... which would NEVER happen. This has to be a mistake right? This has to be some sort of bug.

Players playing WEIRD positions
I'm not currently posting this in the bugs and glitches thread because I'm not sure if it is or not. I have, however, noticed this a few times.

Re: Players playing WEIRD positions
Unfortunately they will probably not accept this as a true bug although it's been a problem with this series for quite some time. The cpu makes a lot of pinch hitting and pinch running substitutions late in games with no regards for who it has left to play in certain positions. I love this game, but this is one thing that really hurts the immersion factor. You have a good extra inning game going and suddenly the other team has Freddy Galvis playing catcher or something.
I know programming AI managerial decisions has to be very difficult. What I'd love to see somewhere down the line is the ability to override those decisions if we like. It could just be a pop up option that reads "the cpu wants to pinch run for Miguel Cabrera with Rajai Davis. Do you want to allow this?". Some Baseball PC games use this method and it works rather effectively. -
Re: Players playing WEIRD positions
Happens to me all the time when I'm working on a new RTTS character. I am left-handed and play the LF/OF but occasionally, as I was moving up from AA to AAA, I was inserted to pinch hit and then catch or play 2B. Yes, a left handed catcher and middle infielder. Fun to play on the softball field in real like and in the game but totally unrealistic and laughable. Seeing the animation to turn the double play is hilarious as a leftyComment

Re: Players playing WEIRD positions
If players do play out of position there needs to be some sort of negative player impact. Now depending on how out of position they are it might be minimal. But to where a middle infeilder is playing catcher there should be more past balls, as maybe even more important would be the cather now calling a bad game as far as pitch location and selection.Comment

Re: Players playing WEIRD positions
From primary to secondary...there is a slight hit...out of position it's a bigger hit.
But....to the OP....there should be something that blocks the CPU from using players in non-rated positions(ESP catcher and shortstop) unless it's a complete emergency.

Re: Players playing WEIRD positions
Defensive hit when playing a secondary position is 20%. When playing a non-listed position, its a 40% hit on the Fielding Rating.Comment

Re: Players playing WEIRD positions
David Ortiz plays first base every game. This is very annoying. As many times as I play the Sox I hate always seeing Ortiz at first.Comment
