If anything it is way too easy. 70+ speed I can swipe second over 90% of the time as can the CPU. It has been three years since taking an extra step helps at all. The same as the last few years you actually have less of a chance if you take an extra step. The only thing that I have noticed is different this year is that the last 2 years anytime the CPU took an extra step you picked them off unless you overthrew.

Re: Anyone had luck stealing bags?
I'm wondering if there was a dynamic patch or something because when I first started playing when the game came out I could steal easily but now I'm having a hard time even stealing with Mookie Betts or even Ben Revere.Comment

Re: Anyone had luck stealing bags?
Are you talking about in regular games where you control everyone? Or RTTS where you're manually stealing? If it's regular then yeah, dont steal with anyone less than 80 spd, if it's RTTS, get your guy to at least an 85 spd first, and time your jumps great. (tip: Learn the pitchers head movements)Comment

Re: Anyone had luck stealing bags?
My RTTS guy is 99 spd, and at least 85 stl. And sometimes I still get picked off even with great jumps. (I'm just hesitant to adjust the baselining slider).Comment

Re: Anyone had luck stealing bags?
My RTTS guy has 90 Spd plus 7 in equipment and he steals everything. In AA I could steal at will, and even in AAA I can steal second even on slide steps. I have been thrown out a few times at 3rd in Triple A as catchers ratings are better.
When I get to the majors, I will still steal second in most occasions but third will be more situational. I will mainly try third on pitchers with slow deliveries.
I never take an extra lead. They will almost always throw over.
Cheap Trick in RTTS: Watch the catcher. If the catcher shifts or does a jump move then the pitcher is actually delivering the pitch. I steal on catcher movement and not pitcher. Yes, I said it was cheap.Comment

Re: Anyone had luck stealing bags?
I think one thing we're failing to mention is stealing is usually situational... what count is the batter in? Who's pitching? Who's catching? Has he thrown over? etc... All these factors usually lead to (un)successful attempts.Madden CFM 10YF

Re: Anyone had luck stealing bags?
Yesterday I was playing against the Red Sox and Ortiz singled. I notice he was rated zero in all running categories so I went to pick him off and he got back without a slide. Weird right? The strange part was he had a bigger lead than he takes in real life.
Sometimes I've lead off, without having the intention of stealing, and they don't throw over. So, I can't say that they will always throw over, however this is still an issue. My advice, obtain a rabbit's foot and store it in your pocket and hope they don't throw over if you leading off (with the intention of stealing) because they will get you.Comment

No, not weird at all.Comment

Re: Anyone had luck stealing bags?
In standard gameplay, I never take an extra step. It just telegraphs your intentions. I also try not to run in a fastball count if I am trying a straight steal. Hit and run you want to be a fastball count. But lets stick with the straight steal. With no added lead, i use the early steal function by holding L2. But I won't let go until I see movement. It will be extremely rare to see a pick off in these situations. This way I can get the best possible jump that I can control. Just tapping L2 gives you random bad jumps even with great basestealers. With the early steal method, you only get a bad jump if your timing is off.Comment

I use tap L2 for hit and run only. The jump is just too unreliable.Comment

Re: Anyone had luck stealing bags?
So you're not happy because slow guys can't steal?
If the guys speed is in the 50's I'm not even thinking of stealing, and I run a lot because I love to steal bases.
If their rating is in the 60's I'm looking at it, but the conditions have to be in my favor. Who is pitching? Does he throw a lot of curveballs? How fast is his move to home with the pitch? What is the count to the hitter? Who's the catcher? If I'm playing the Cardinals and Molina is behind the plate, I'm not going to try and steal with a guy below an 80 rating.
So like other guys have said, there are a lot of factors in stealing success. You can't just steal with anybody at anytime.Comment
