People are saying direction w/button is the best? Why?

Does hitting with direction give you some sort of advantage?

How do you use it effectively?

I wouldn't say advantage, but it allows you to look for a pitch inside out up or down. I always used timing hitting and it's the same thing just with directional feature added to it. It's not something I use every pitch but it helps if you are trying to drive the ball the other way or looking to crush something high in the zone...

Also, very rarely i will guess the pitch and location plus also use directional hitting in the same direction as the guessed pitch location, very good things usually happen if all three things line up!!

What am I pressing in directional to take advantage of a high zone hung pitch? Up?

Just hold your left thumbstick up then if the pitch is up you should hit it hard.

No......what you are describing is zone hitting.

The direction is not intended to be pushed in the direction of the location of the pitch, the direction is intended to be pushed in the direction you want to to influence the ball to go.

So yes, sometimes if the ball is up you press up and that should result in a good hit. But there are times where the ball is low, and you still want to press up (power hitter trying to hit a HR, or runner on 3rd with less than 2 outs and you need a fly ball, etc...)

Directional is intended to make you pull or push the ball based on the situation AND the pitch. So you can try to pull an outside pitch, but that is not smart just like it isn't in real life. Will you still pull balls for hits? Yes...Will the ball still go opposite field even if you pull sometimes? Yes, because timing is still involved.

You can combine directions, so pulling and pressing down will pull a pitch on ground, up and push, will hit ball in air opposite field, etc..

Again none of these a guaranteed, these are what you are attempting to accomplish. Pitch location, timing, pitching type, hitter skill, etc... all play factors....like in real life.
