How do you guys do your franchise?
30 team control and force trades on? That way if there are any trades in real life you can update as you go? I've never used 30 team control but about to start my Cubs franchise and feel like that might be the best route. ThanksColts fan

Re: How do you guys do your franchise?
I controlled all 30 teams for this reason but then i noticed I couldnt just trade.
I like to trade without feeling like im stacking my team so i re-started my franchise without controlling others teams. Then one of players decided to throw with his other arm and that just bugs the schit out of me so i had to start all over again.PITTSBURGH STEELERS

I don't use 30 team control. I like the out come of a virtual fantasy world. Sure the computer makes crazy trades sometimes, but it's not a big deal to me. Others swear by it.
Unless you are playing a game a day following real life, I would think by the time the MLB gets to the trade deadline you would be way past it on The Show.Comment

Re: How do you guys do your franchise?
Wow, really? I usually start my seasons in about late April and I don't get to the trade deadline until MAYBE October. I guess I just don't play as often as you guys. But this is why I'm going away from following real life transactions this year in favor of no transactions.Comment

You probably changed that players primary or secondary position....and scrolled past an infield position, which automatically changed him to right handed. You have to be very careful when changing positions.

Re: How do you guys do your franchise?
It's nuts to think having veto power on CPU trades keeps it realistic. It only keeps it realistic to YOUR perception of reality, which might actually be equally incongruent with reality
Plus if you veto trades that might not happen in real life, what about ones that might happen in real life but the CPU DOESN'T make? Do you start manually creating trades for other teams? Can of worms...Comment

Re: How do you guys do your franchise?
I just control one team.
I start the season off with the latest rosters and stats to reflect reality in MLB at that time. But once opening day comes and the season starts, all bets are off. I'm not trying to mirror what's happening in MLB day-to-day, I'm setting up my own universe and seeing how it plays out; the similarities and differences to the real league. That's where the fun is.
I don't see the appeal in controlling all teams and controlling all trades. Even if you're extremely knowledgeable, there is bound to be some subconscious biases, however subtle, that will effect the game world in one way or another.San Francisco 49ers

Re: How do you guys do your franchise?
I'll restart when hybrid rosters come out, but the way I'm doing it now and the way I've done it for years is
1 team control (although thinking of maybe changing to 30 when I restart, deep thought required) and I use armor & swords slider set. I generally go through the first year without any major changes with trades or signings, only callups when necessary. After that though it's open season on making the best team I can.
As for playing through the season, it's all in how it starts. If I win the first game of the first series, I'll sportscast manage the second game (to ensure lineups go the way I want, enter then back out causing the game to end). If I win the second, I'll do the same until I lose again.
The idea is to actually play a game whenever a series might be lost. So if I won the first game of the series, lost the simulated second game, I'd play the third. If I win, I'll sim the first game of the next series, continuing the pattern. This attempts to keep me above .500 and above the other teams, but I don't always win, meaning the next game after is usually almost always played.
But winning grants me a chance to get through a chunk of a week via sim. So depending how good I actually do when I play a game, the season can fly by at a pretty good rate or slow to a crawl when I hit losing streaks.
Quick counts or not depends on my plans for that evening. Wednesday and Saturday nights are all mine, and I generally sit back with a drink and play out 3 full games each night, with other nights usually quick counts, maybe one full game.Comment

Re: How do you guys do your franchise?
Two years ago I took the Cubs and replaced all minor leaguers with fictional players. I then played the AA games and moved guys up as they merited it based on AAA player performance/injuries.
It was great fun, because I wasn't constrained by my own knowledge of actual player performance or what was happening in real-life MLB.
The games play a little different, but there's a lot of variety. I did have to play with the sliders a little more.Comment

Re: How do you guys do your franchise?
Exactly. That's why I always handled all the real trades myself and did no fake trades at all. But after several years, the practice of imposing real life trades on a simulated season that was progressing differently started to bother me so I'm going this year to the only other option that makes sense to me which is to not do any trades and just let opening day(series) rosters ride out the season to see what that version of the team could have done. I'll be doing some big blockbuster trades and the most severe injuries but I haven't decided if I'll only do that for playoff-hunt teams in real life that are also in the hunt in the game. The only things I can't decide right now are A)1-team vs 30-team control and B)back to Season as I always did on the PS2 or Franchise. Season is just so much cleaner and less involved and if I won't be doing any trades to keep up with the season I don't see the need for the perfectly organised minors. But every player outside the 40 man being in the FA pool scares me a bit if I have to find one later.Comment

Re: How do you guys do your franchise?
I used to do 30 team but as someone said in another thread I felt detached from the team I was actually using.
This year I'm doing one team control with the Rangers and I'm loving it. I feel like I'm in absolute control of my team and there is a whole baseball world out there that I amen't some kind of God overseeing everything.
Using 30 team I was constantly checking everything to make sure it was "right".
Playing as one team I actually feel like I'm the GM.
Sure there will be some wonky trades but I can live with it in my baseball universe.Comment
