Re: Auto Baserunning for you experienced players

I use auto baserunning. It's not perfect, but I choose to use it because I find it difficult to manually manage multiple runners on the basepaths at once.

I have two issues with the auto baserunning in this year's game. First, the runners are occasionally very aggressive trying to stretch a hit for an extra base. Ball comes into third while the runner is just turning the base at second. (The guy at the bag waits patiently to apply the tag. It looks funny, but always seems to happen when I'm trying to rally) That's annoying, but happens rarely enough to ignore.

The bigger problem is the auto stealing. The CPU can be crazy aggressive stealing bases sometimes, and it can ruin a game. Played the Cardinals the other night, and Wainwright was wild. Drew three straight walks, only to have them all get thrown out by Molina trying for second. Fastest of the three had a 44 speed. Again, this doesn't happen every game. I'd prefer to see the devs add an option for manual control of steal attempts, leaving everything else on auto, but that's not an option now.

That's my experience with auto baserunning. Hope it helps.

I use auto base running. I found it just too frustrating trying to do it on my own, especially with multiple runners on base.

And yes, there have been times the players have tried to stretch out doubles into triples or trying to score from first where I found myself yelling "NO!!!" but in the end it is still less frustrating then getting called out because I fumbled with the controller.

I my league Molina is hardly catching anyone. Of course I am the pitcher and I kind of never slide step (I need to figure out how) or try and pick guys off.

i hate manual baserunning, ive had a few instances where it was like WTF GO!!!!. for example. had a base runner on 3rd and the next batter hit a nice hit into the Right side Gap so it would be a Easy run in for that 3rd baseman, but i could not get the guy to run home. he just would not leave.

another time, i was new to manual base running that i wasnt sure what i was doing but i ended up running 3 base runners all to third base, needless to say the CPU tagged all my guys out because i couldnt figure out how to get them to go back. so the cpu ended up with a triple play.

All I use is auto, it's just so much easier. Like the other guys said there are some baserunning errors here and there, but nothing to bad.

I use auto fielding, but thats to avoid the bug issues. When it come to baserunning i prefer manual. Im very good at baserunning. My only gripe with manual running is when i have bases loaded with less than 2 outs and I hit a deep fly to right center. Runners on 2nd and 3rd automatically tag, but you can only send 1 at a time. Obviously I send the runner at 3rd first, but if my runner at 2nd isnt very fast I feel i have to hold him. This comes up once in a blue moon, but other than that I recommend manual baserunning as you can be more aggressive. I cant tell you how many runs ive stolen from the CPU because of my running skills in certain situations (and im not talking about exploiting bugs). Ex: Segura on 2nd with 2 outs. Gomez hits a ground ball up the middle and the SS makes a diving stab. As soon as I saw the dive I told Segura to go home because I figured the throw would go to 1st and be late and I would beat the throw home. Sure enough that's exactly how it played out. A huge run in a late inning in a close game. You cant get that with auto running.

I have used it for as long as I can remember and personally I don't have any complaints with it at all. I stated using it because baserunning wasn't 1 of the better features with this game on manual, and while its probably better than it use to be, its just best if I use it, my reflexes and concentration isn't up to par anymore to try manual baserunning or fielding

I use auto baserunning 100% of the time. Not because the game is flawed, but because I'm terrible at it. Maybe they should implement "baserunning practice"....

Yeah, sometimes the baserunners are too aggressive trying to take the extra base on a single, sometime they're safe sometimes they're out. It really doesn't bother me because it seems like natural baseball to me. Sometimes a baserunner just thinks he can make it!!!

The only real issue is sometimes a non-base stealer will take off for second on his own. Not enough to make me crazy though.

Tried auto baserunning last night with your sliders, guy gets thrown out by 15 feet at home. I was down 1-0. Luckily I ended up winning 2-1. Definitely using manual.

Baserunning is way to important to have set to auto IMO. I can live with an error in the field if its on auto, but as its previously been stated, different situations and scenarios dictate decisions on the bases and whether to be aggressive or conservative. I had a situation playing last night with 1 out and a runner on second. I hit a groundball deep in the hole between 3rd and short and tried to take the base at third in hopes of scoring if it got into the OF. Segura made the backhanded stop and had Jay caught between second and third. I was able to get him into a rundown long enough that the batter was able to make it into second base. Im not sure if run-down logic is a part of auto baserunning or not but it made me feel good to execute simple strategy like that.

The auto base running is sometimes too aggressive and sometimes not aggressive enough, but in the end it makes far less mistakes that I do fumbling when fumbling with the controller.

I used auto as well as I know I have had issues managing multiple runners in the past. Even if the cpu does something stupid on occasion, it is still better than what I would do. My only real frustration is if I bunt with a man on 3rd, they don't seem to want to go home. Otherwise the computer is very aggressive, however it pays off quite a bit.
