I don't agree with this problem. I get the black called sometimes, I get calls off the black on occasion and it seems to be consistent throughout the game. In fact I've noticed when my guy or the cpu's guy is just really on (ex. I had a perfect game going into the 9th that I lost) that i received a "Greg Maddux" strike zone where anything even kind of close was a strike.

I don't understand this phenomenon where online players for whatever game play it online, and when they're not happy about a particular aspect of that game, it's suddenly a huge disadvantage to them and it greatly benefits people who suck.


I see this in a lot of MMO's, and most definitely see it in FPS games.."lag compensation in CoD, they took away my uber helicopter BF Hardline." If both players are playing under the same conditions, it does not benefit one side over another, you're just not as good at playing under the current conditions, or not as good what you thought you were. It's fine to not agree with a particular change in the game year to year, but if you're having problems adjusting to it, that's on you, not the guy who apparently sucks.

I have variable strike zone turned OFF yet I still see pitches that seem to be a strike called a ball and vice versa - although it's at a MUCH lower rate. So for me having it off is what I would have liked to have if I turned it on - a few borderline pitches here or there being called wrong.

I dont get this phenomenon where people act all passive aggressive on the computer. We are having problems adjusting to it? So what would those adjustments be, just throw the ball down the middle like other people do? Or maybe since im not getting the outside corner I should throw inside? But sadly thats not how this game works. I know some of you play the game because you like video games, but I play because I like baseball. Im not gonna throw fastballs up and in and changeups low and outta the zone all game long like half the community. I actually pitch and paint corners and keep you off balanced.

I get most of you probably dont watch much baseball, maybe a game a week on ESPN so you dont fully grasp the game. But IRL this isnt how umpires call games. They dont flip a coin at every single pitch on a corner, I shouldnt be losing double digit strikes a game because kids just randomly take pitches in the zone so the game decides to throw them a bone and make them all balls, especially when theres two strikes.

Oh look, I can be passive aggressive too.

Well I can see a big adjustment right now off the top of my head, maybe stop calling everyone else a kid while having temper tantrums about a video game would be a great start. It's just not a good look, and it can't help with performance.


Seriously, you're this unable to deal with failure and you expect me to believe you've spent any significant time around baseball, or any real competition for that matter? Some may buy that, but I've seen hundreds of you, and it's just cause you lost at a video game, nothing more.

Getting back on topic.

I was playing a game in franchise last night with the Padres against the Dodgers last night, very first pitch I threw with Cashner was right on the outside corner of the plate and called a ball. I just shook my head and knew it was going to one of those games where I can't use the corner.

I don't mind the feature because it takes the ease out of getting too many strikeouts.

I would agree with you except for one thing:

Each umpire in this game has his own personality (as Armor & Sword pointed out). We even had an Umpire Scouting Thread at one point.

Each umpire is consistent with his own inconsistencies. Just like in real life, some umps are "hitters ump" and some are "pitchers umps". Some do what you say (take away the inside corner in favor of the outside), some just can't seem to get a consistent zone.

Do this: For your next 10 games write down your 'Scouting Report' on the umpire you face, then go into the game details and find out what ump it is. You are going to start seeing patterns, and hopefully you will understand a bit of what SCEA is going for.

I've never seen anything as blatant as number two so I'm guessing that has to be an OSD bug of some kind. Did the pitch actually land there?

This happened in a live game this past week... maybe Toronto v. Boston first game of series. Catcher set up in a different spot (outside, IIRC) and pitch basically split the plate. Ball 4.

How does this get called a ball ?

In online games where one of the players have slow connection, you sometimes have a sync issue in which you and the opponent see a pitch landing on different location. Not sure if this is such a case, but that might have caused this.

Except this proves nothing because in today's game, high strikes are rarely called anymore. The pitch the other dude showed an image of was right down the middle. These Chapman pitches called balls are all high and one could be construed as outside.
