Not rare at all. I usually use O when I have two strikes and I've repeatedly hit homeruns with it, even in MLB 14.

    As for the OP.

If you use guess pitching and guess correctly for the first strike, use square. Most of the time you'll hit it hard enough into a gap or it'll skip off the infielders glove for a base hit. If you're lucky, you'll be rounding the bases until you're home.

Most of the time for a base hit, press x. Especially after 1 strike, people on base and you're in a bit of a slump. (RTTS)

When you're down two strikes and need to fight off close pitches, in a huge slump, or just want to put good wood on the pitch then press O. You won't get many extra base hits unless you guess pitches/locations and correctly.

If you're using analog, there's still a way to use power.

It's based on the count with me. I use square (power) early in the count. Rarely do I use square with 2 strikes being that it's harder to check swing.

I'm new to this game and been playing well with just using square and x....... Didn't even realise you could use circle until now lol.

X swing. O swing when down in the count (0,2 1-2). Square swing, pretty much never. Most of my HR's are when using X, but I have hit plenty with the O swing.

If i am up in the count, i try to use X, unless it's a flame thrower. Using X i seem to always wind up swinging late. If behind in the count, i use O. I have hit plenty of gap shots and homeruns using just O.

Also, i use directional hitting, and have found that trying to pull the ball while using X, i am ALWAYS late on fastballs and wind up popping up the pitch. However, if i try to pull with O, i usually have good success with getting gap shots and hard line drives.

I'm not sure if it is a placebo, my mind, or what, but if i don't pick a direction to swing towards, i don't have good success. I usually try to push the ball to opposite field, and wind up hitting it up the middle. it's working for me.

I usually use X when I bat unless I am in a hitters count and then I may take a shot with a Square swing.

I made a CF in RttS that is high speed and high contact with less than average power. I swing with O about 90% of the time and X the other 10%, never using square. He is beating the ball around the park. Hitting lots of doubles and triples into the gap, and has 2 inside the park HRs.

Another way to look at it is:

if a player has a high contact rating, you should have good success with the X button.

if the player has a low contact rating, you should probably use the O button.
