    Scouting?

Anyone have any tips for scouting players?

I've scouted so many players on franchise mode, but seems like many of them aren't even in the draft class. Some could be 18,others could be 22,either way, seems like no guarantee the guys I'm scouting are even in the draft.

So how do I know if they'll even be part of the draft or not? Cause I don't want to waste my time scouting someone who isn't in that years draft.

Does the MLB ETA determine when he'll be in the draft or something?

I restart the draft until I see a good group. I don't like the setup and random isn't a good way to do it. Trust and believe you can't get everyone in the draft you want!

I've wondered this too. It makes no sense to have 50 players that I've scouted with MLB ETA's within 2 years to not be in the draft.

I've only done 1 draft so maybe they're in the next draft? If not where do they go? What's the point in scouting players that aren't in the upcoming draft?

because they can develop into good players later on, just keep a eye on them as they work their way up through the minor league system

I know in past years at least that those scouted players are in the next draft. By the time you get to your third or fourth year, you have a much higher percentage of players scouted. It's not an ideal set up and I've been hoping for a while that the whole scouting/draft process will get some major love soon.

            Re: Scouting?

Thats the risk in scouting. The havent made it that drafted player refuse to sign so this makes it somewhat similar. If you knew who was in the draft every year and could scout just those players fully...thats kind of scouting for the sake of scouting. It takes out an element of uncertainty. In the scenario people are suggesting I just have set scouting to auto and pick the best player when the draft rolls around..thats kinda lame and uneventful.

I agree however, that some more depth...(even editable draft classes) unplayable lower levels (High A and Low A full 25 man rosters) would get added and add more rounds would make the draft a little more real and fun

When following seasons draft list is out, some guys are already fully scouted, cause I scouted them 1-2 seasons ago,and they're still not in the upcoming draft.....

How old are they? Maybe they are staying in school some more? Only way to explain it since signing draft picks is pretty much automatic and you don't have some electing not to sign to be in the next years draft.

That's the problem I have. If a guy is 22 years old he needs to be in the draft pool. If he's 18 I can see him not showing up for 2-3 years. But if that's the case I want his ratings to change.

Did any of you guys hire new scouting personnel? I'm just letting it go on auto so I'm wondering if I need better scouts because of that.

I hire new personnel, but I also don't let it just go auto, as your scouts won't do much scouting if you don't get involved in it.

This goes for the OP as well, but I've got a system that seems to work really well. This is a rather hands on approach, so if you want to ignore Scouting altogether, read no further. At the beginning of the season, I hire guys that have high (70+) discovery ratings paired with either a high position player (PP) or Pitcher rating (or even better: the bonus guys who do well with both), regardless of their salaries, and I try to spread them across all 4 regions. If I can't get them across all 4 regions, then I will find 2 guys in the same region, one with a high pitcher rating and the other with a high PP rating. Then I set the directive for each scout to search for their strong suits and let that run a few days. When I go back there are plenty of players to scout, but we've only scratched the surface, so the next step is to flip the positions being scouted. For PP-strong scouts, I will change the position being scouted between C, IF, and OF. Since there are plenty more pitchers to be found than PP, I will go a few more days and then switch the Pitcher-strong scouts to the opposite hand. After a few more days, I then switch the PP scouts to the last position and let them run a few more days. Since you only have 2 months to scout, this is the point where I may fire all 4 scouts (but don't forget who these guys are), because now that I've found so many players, I no longer care about the discovery trait. If I have a super scout with high PP and Pitcher traits, I may let him continue looking longer, but my emphasis now is having a high efficiency rating paired with high PP and/or Pitcher rating. I try to pair the new scouts to the recently unemployed with region and position, but it doesn't always work out that way. I believe the position being aligned is more important, so, for example, if I had a scout discovering PP's in the West, I'll look for a West scout with high PP and efficiency ratings. In the event there is a scout with much better ratings in those categories, but his region is Central, I'm going with the Central guy. The effect this seems to have is that this oddball scout may be a hair slower scouting guys, but his reports will be more accurate. The reason not to forget your previous scouts is just to make it easier to find them, in the event your new efficient scouts are good at their jobs and scout most of the players. If the unscouted list starts to dwindle, you can always go back and find that awesome scout with high PP and/or Pitcher, and Discovery traits, and have him keep looking while the other 3 scouts keep writing up their reports for you. After the draft, I go back to the page where you hire scouts, hire the 4 cheapest ones and I will rehire the discovery scouts to restart the process all over again after Spring Training. This helps conserve salary to be spent on players in the offseason. Using this process, the first few years I can still land some high potential guys later on and by year 3 or 4, I'm going into drafts with more scouted players than non scouted.

                        Hope this helps!

if youre going to manipulate the system to get great scouts do it the easy way. Use 30 team control..find the 4 best scouts and release them from the team theyre on and sign them, save some time from restarting to get what you want
