    Classic Pitching (How To?)

I used to always use Meter pitching but I just changed over to Classic pitching after seeing comments from many others who have done the same. However, how exactly does it work?

I notice during warm-up there's a vibration on the controller - am I trying to time my release to coincide with the vibration or is the vibration a signal that I've gone too far? One game I had good control when I released just before the vibration; the next game it seemed like I was all over the place regardless of when I released.

Second part of my question - what changes once a runner gets on base? I noticed that when runners are on base the vibration is gone (or at least it seems to be gone.) Is there no type of cue at this point - you just randomly release the button and hope for the best?

Finally - I noticed (or at least I thought I did) that for a couple of pitchers the vibration during the pitching motion was very strong, so I knew exactly where the release point was. During another game (and while using a weaker pitcher) it felt weaker, so I had trouble finding it. Any one else notice this?

Classic is a unique interface. Aside from effort, your success is largely going to depend on situational factors and ratings. These situational factors include confidence, pitch confidence, pitch ratings and stamina. Personal skill, such as timing a meter, are removed from the equation. So it is definitely the most intimate interface in relation to ratings versus the hitter and pitcher.

The vibration represents maximum effort. This will make fastballs come in harder and breaking pitches use more spin. Stamina is depleted more the longer the button is held down. Vibration is the furthest your effort can go.

I think there is a legacy issue where some pitchers lose their vibration point all together from the stretch; meaning it disappearing is not by design. This should not be the case for most players. When using these players, trust your gut and go by feel.

This may be related to the bolded above but my best guess is that what you're feeling isn't actually "weaker" vibration. This may be placebo but I can't be certain. Either way, vibration is always maximum effort so you'll generally have more control releasing at any point prior to when the controller vibrates
    See the bolded above.

I've written a lot on OS about Classic in the past, as have a lot of us and there's a ton a lot of useful information on the site. I think you might find some of those threads useful.

Let me see if I can dig them up. BRB.

These would be a good place to start. Unfortunately, I think we may have lost the specific thread I was looking for from last year thanks to an unfortunate site error.

Generally, one of us starts a thread dedicated to the interface every year. I'll be sure to start one for 15 again when I get some free time, but keep in mind, the interface is largely the same as it's always been. Even though it's not necessarily slider related, this is generally the place where most of us like to put it once it's created. Keep an eye out.

If you have any questions in the meantime let me know.

Awesome - thanks for the help. I came across a few of those older articles when I was did a search, but they were several years old and I wasnt sure if it was still applicable today.
