    4 quick Qs (pitches, stealing)

4 questions I could use help with...

#1 - looking for a pitch - when you set 'look' for an 'expected' pitch, does it lessen your chance of a good hit if you swing at another pitch? Like if I 'look' for a 4 seam fastball but see a curve come and swing at it, is my chance to hit the curve LESS having been looking for the 4SFB... less than had I NOT 'looked' for any particular pitch. ??

#2 - stealing... I hit the button combo to steal and my guy went way before the pitcher and got picked off. When you steal I guess you effectively give up the chance to swing too? Or can you queue the steal so the runner goes on the move to the plate Just by clicking L2 once?

I saw someone post this on a gamefaq page... is it correct?

Hit L2 once and let go to queue the runner to steal.

L1 to step. (How many steps is up to you.)
Press & hold L2 before you steal.
Let go of L2 to steal during the windup.

#3 - Balls... anyone find their human pitcher throws with a lot of inconsistency vs the CPU? Does the 'rhythm' of how quickly you throw the next pitch affect that?

#4 - suggested pitches .... not throwing what the catcher calls for... if you throw a pitch different than the suggested pitch and in a different location, is your chance of throwing a strike less?

#1 - I will assume your refering to the guess pitch feature. If this is the case then yes if you look for a certain pitch then it is harder to hit others but certainly not impossible. Im not sure of the particulars on it perhaps though someone else might.

#2 - When it comes to stealing I think I speak for everyone when I suggest just hitting L2 and letting the computer handle the steal process. Holding L2 and trying to time everything is extremely hard no matter the situation. L1 does in fact control your leads but I think as it stands right now most people are having a lot of success simply pressing L2 and not trying to take a lead as the AI this season will pick you off more often then not.

#3 - To my knowledge the pace of you throwing pitches does not affect anything. If you are having a hard time throwing strikes then perhaps adjusting the consistency slider a bit might help you. Be mindful though if you have left the BALK feature on then you can give up a lot of run by trying to pitch to quickly and not coming to a complete pause.

#4 - Ignoring the catcher again to my knowledge does affect anything. Personally I have never read anything to suggest that the catcher has any sort of intel as to what a certain batter cannot hit. I know though that a lot of their decisions as far as pitch choices are absurd and in no way a good idea lol.

I hope this has helped you and possibly some other people may be able to shed some light on the topics I am not to knowledgeable about.

It has actually been confirmed by a developer that varying your timing to the plate does in fact help control the running game.

In years past the guess pitch was actually quite a negative thing. Generally speaking if you dont guess direction and pitch right you lose stats on the swing. If you do get lucky and guess right you gain stats, but ive found that these boosts dont counteract the negative of guessing wrong. I also found even if i guessed correct i would pop the ball up somehow.

I started playing without guessing pitches at all and found my batting improved immensely and it also made the game even more enjoyable. Maybe try playing without using guess pitch for a while and see how that turns out

          Cheers

I have seen a lot of people on this site say they don't use Guess pitch, but I like it. I have mine set to Classic which has the smallest bonuses (and I assume the smallest penalty but idk, I haven't used the other guess pitch settings enough to determine which one has the lowest penalties) and on the first pitch I always guess a fastball high. If I don't guess it right, I don't swing. I keep guessing fastball high until I either guess right and hit it or until he throws a strike. A lot of my homeruns come from guessing right on a first pitch fastball and depositing it into the bleachers. Then for the rest of the at bat I usually guess their most devastating offspeed pitch down in the zone because most of my strikeouts come from me chasing curveballs in the dirt or sliders that are in the other batting box.

Just use whatever you are comfortable with. I'm comfortable with Classic guess pitch so I use it, even though mostly everyone else doesn't use guess pitch at all

If you want to use guess pitch then just guess location. I only guess location, in fact I guess down on every pitch, there doesn't seem to be as much as a penalty if you are wrong about location.

                On the pitching....

I play Classic w/one click pitching. There isn't a way to vary your timing. However, the game takes care of that for you and I don't that in a good way. I get so aggravated when I can't throw a strike due to this variable that the game 'chooses' for you. I have 99 control on my FB and the game decides to put your pitch two feet from your target.

I feel like I'm being penalized for playing this way. You know it's bad when you are picking the placement of your pitches based off this variable instead of where you actually want the pitch to go. I've played with confidence on and off. It makes no difference. I have two aggravating issues with RTTS pitching, and this is one of them.
