I have a Panasonic 50" plasma (in Game mode). I would say I have difficulty hitting fastballs as well. I don't recall it being so much in MLB14. But yeah, it's pretty much a guessing game with me as far as my swing timing is concerned. I am nearly always "Late". And if they are fastballs high in the zone, forget about it -- I think I've yet to even hit one ...

Use this site to find a TV with low input lag. http://www.displaylag.com/
In my experience with the show and many different sets of Television I find that anything over 25 ms of inputlag is going to affect your timing.Comment

Re: Plasma
I'm one of those crazy people who can notice lag when watching a movie (and it drives me nuts). When I finally decided to invest in a flat screen TV 5 years ago I did a ton of research. I went with a Samsung plasma and I have never noticed lag on it. It's got great colours too but the darks are a little to dark.
Couple of years ago my roommate won a contest and won a top of the line new LED/LCD hybrid tv that was much bigger. It was the worst. The show was unplayable. He liked it until we did a side by side with my TV and I pointed out the screen tearing. He returned it for store credit.
I will be very sad the day my plasma dies.
BTW I have played the show on my ASUS gaming monitor. I would agree that it is better, but only slightly. I prefer my TV still because of the size and the audio sucks on a monitor (I use really good headphones when playing on the tv)Comment

Looks like I am going to get the Sony 65 inch 950B.
I see that someone was mentioning hitting high pitches....I can't hit them at all! My guys always pop them up even on "good" timing....
Thank you everyone for your input! I love this game, but, I usually get frustrated and quit after a couple months. Hopefully this new TV will fix my issues!Comment

I have a 51 Samsung Plasma. Grown to hate it. Too damn dark, no matter what I do.
As for the input lag, it definitely is real. Here is a helpful site that lists tv lag ratings. http://www.displaylag.com/display-database/Mariners Seahawks Sonics UW Sounders

Re: Plasma
It may just be coincidence but last night I started tinkering with my TV settings. I noticed that all this time (for years) I've been playing MLB The Show on "movie mode." I changed it to a typical setting and I could swear that I was just a split-second faster at swinging the bat. The result, 13 hits. The most I've had so far this season is maybe 9-10. And I was making, solid, and sometimes even early contact on 94-95 mph fastballs. I have always been late on fastballs no matter what, or so it seems. Again, perhaps it's nothing but it sure felt like the game was different.Comment

Re: Plasma
That's because movie modes in televisions usually tend to be the mode that has the highest amount of input lag. If people don't know what input lag is, it is basically the amount of time it takes for an input on your controller to appear on the screen. If you have a game mode on your television I suggest switching to that when playing the show and I'll gurantee you will see a noticeable improvement in your hitting. It may just be coincidence but last night I started tinkering with my TV settings. I don't have a game mode. I have dynamic, standard, energy efficient (or something like that), and movie. I bought an ASUS MX279H 27" monitor last year and have never looked back. I picked it up for $240. It is practically lag free and my Challenge of the week score improved immensely after I started using the monitor for gaming. Picture also looks great to me with the right settings. Obviously the sound coming from the monitor is lacking but I game with headphones. I have the astro A50's for my sound needs.PSN: ckarlic

Re: Plasma
Why cant the game just have a controller calibaration where you swing and fastballs and it can adjust what your timming is based on your reaction.Comment

Re: Plasma
Re: Plasma
That is a good question. On a game like the show where timing is everything, there should be a way to calibrate for the amount of lag a set up has. I am not a tech wizard, but, you would think there would have to be a way!
Maybe a mini game like metered pitching where the you hit a button on your controller when the object crosses a spot. It has you do this 20 times to get a baseline and afterwards it moves your timing window to adjust for this time difference.
Really this could be a PS4 feature because even though you don't notice it on most games it would be great to have things work as perfectly as possible.Comment

I just remembered where i have seen this feature and it was in all of the rock band games to where proper timming was what the game was all about.Comment

Re: Plasma
I have never played Rock Band, but, now it seems like this is something we should be pushing for. It would help sales of The Show too, most people I know won't play it because it is too hard. What if a calibration feature like this would open it up to more casual players!Comment
