    Comebackers

For yet another year, this is one of the biggest problems in the game for me. It seems AT LEAST once a game, I will time up that perfect fastball and drive it back up the middle, and be thrown out at first by 20 feet because the ball hit the pitcher and went directly to the third baseman. This is such a large problem in my opinion, and it's really frustrating. I wasn't going to say anything about it, but it got too much last night when I was losing by one; bases loaded in the 8th, and ripped one up the middle with Kris Bryant. Low and behold, I was thrown out after the ball in real life would have broken Mark Melancon's leg. Instead, he went on uninjured and I was thrown out by Josh Harrison. Does anyone else think this is as glaring a problem as I do? Especially because I have yet to see a pitcher leave the game after being struck with a 100 mph liner.

    Re: Comebackers

No I don't see it as big of a problem as years past. It happens but not as frequently as it used to. I can go games without seeing it happen which hasn't always been the case

      Re: Comebackers

It happens to me way too often. I mainly have been playing rtts this year, and I must be unlucky as hell, because I see it happen so often, it's one of my serious major gripes with this game. Especially in a clutch situation with men on base or something, having the pitcher take a rocket to the leg, arm or chest and bounce back like nothing happened and throw me out is infuriating. How they haven't done anything to rectify this issue after all these years is beyond my comprehension.

        Re: Comebackers

In years past it's been a big issue obviously but this year I've seen all sorts of outcomes on those types of plays. I hit Adam Wainwright in the arm and the ball bounced and just died on the mound. He sat there wincing for a few seconds before he actually tried to field the ball, easily letting me get to first. I hit him in his pitching arm but he was able to continue, even though he acted injured.

I've seen the pitcher move their leg and avoid getting hit.

And yes, I got my pitcher injured on a comebacker, Jake Arrieta took a shot to the face, he laid down on the mound and did not get back up for the duration of the play, he was out for a couple of weeks I think.

It's still an issue but they have made progress from MLB '14.

I hit a pitcher in the leg and he actually was pulled from the game. It is still too often an out when you get a piece of the pitcher though. Gotta hope they make strides from '15 to '16.

            Re: Comebackers

If you ask me, pitchers get hit by too many comebackers period. IRL, you dont see near as many comebackers actually hit the pitcher than you do in the game. I honestly wanna say at least 85% if not more of my comebackers I see (for both teams, not just me or CPU) hit the pitcher. (That being said, pitchers still field them way too easily.)

I'm also on the side of it's better than previous years. I think I only saw it once the last series I played against the Pirates. That was in the final game and after I hit two straight up the middle that could have hit the pitcher, but didn't.

                Re: Comebackers

I have hit pitchers with comebackers just about everywhere but the head. I have never had a single one leave the game and the pitcher has thrown me out at first about 90% of the time.

I crushed a 95mph fastball right into the pitchers chest last night on a line drive. The ball died right in front of him and he easily threw me out. IRL, this would have destroyed the pitcher but in this case he took it like Superman and barely flinched.

On a side note, anyone else notice that the commentary is bugged when you hit the pitcher? I have hit the pitcher a number of times and the commentary will say "its off the center field wall"

                  Re: Comebackers

The ball has to be traveling at least 40mph to have chance of injury. Different parts of the body have different injuries with their own specific chance of occurring. Without seeing the plays in question, I can only guess that the hits were not hit as hard as perceived. I know in the past there was a bug that had the ball speed minimum set at closer to 80 mph which resulted in too few injuries, but that was fixed.

I'll take another look at that code to verify.

                  [EDIT]

Double checked...minimum speed is actually 45mph/66fps.

I do. So much so that I prefer they remove them altogether.

                      Re: Comebackers

This is much improved and I enjoy the variety that I get when I do take it up the middle. There's still not enough of the pitcher getting out of the way and not enough grounders in general but I definitely feel improvement. As for the variety I get, I had one ball use the pitcher's leg like a ramp and ended up in the air so long I got could have walked to 1st safely. Hopefully I still have that video. I'll look later. I enjoyed seeing this one happen, though it might be somewhat common.

                        Re: Comebackers

I see about one or two of these I would say almost every game. I'm still adjusting to the changeup this year, and it seems I hit a lot of balls straight back up the middle for some reason. I've only knocked two pitchers out doing it though. One was a direct hit to the face that I almost died laughing about because he fell on the ground and started flopping like a fish out of water, and the second was a hit off the shoulder that ricocheted into the pitcher's face and caused a fractured jaw. If you don't want it to happen, just bunt. I hear that's an easy way to get on base nowadays lol

Yup theres still too many of these. there needs to be some more animations for the pitcher moving out of the way or trying to catch it imo

                            Re: Comebackers

Way to many shots up the middle for me hit off the pitcher, mostly resulting in a 1-3 put out. Im glad the pitcher rarely gets injuries but I wish they could tone it down a lot. I really want to love this game like I did last year but it seams like it's taken a leap backwards. I'm going to wait a while after release next season and see what's been fixed.

Same here for me too, this has been toned done a huge amount from past years. For me, Id have to say it happens at a realistic rate now, and can have games where it never happens.
