Anyone know why, after simming one year, Jose Altuve drops from a 91 to an 89 overall?

I've tried everything from auto training to manual and still no luck. All of his attributes seem to lose points.

I just find it odd seeing as he's only 25 and has a B potential.

If his potential in game isnt 91 then he will drop to whatever his potential is,. Raise his potential up and he shouldnt drop.

Does this happen every time or was this a one time sim?

Would be interesting to know whats happening in year 2?

I dont think it matters what he does during the season. Anytime i see a player rated higher than his potential the players ratings drop until his OVR is down to his potential.

Edit - this is exactly what it is. He is rated 91. His potential is only 84. No matter what he will regress until his OVR is back down to 84. Raise his potential to 91 and he wont change.

Soo that seems like a pretty big oversight by the devs who set all the potentials themselves, no?

Yeah i have no idea why they have some players with a lower potential than their OVR.

I would presume forecasting "flash in the pan" or something like that. "You had one good year but you likely project to be this".

So after saying you should definitely keep Altuve earlier in this thread, I actually ended up trading for him in my franchise and discovered I can't hit with him at all lol. I've played like 5-6 games with him and I think I've had 2 hits. Granted 1 was a clutch homer that hit the foul pole in left and made me scream "that's why I traded for you!" but other than that, he's just flying out a lot, a few hard hit liners right to the infielders which you can't really help, but I was expecting more from him. I'm striking out with him more than I was expecting, pitches that I'd expect a hitter of his caliber to foul off on 2 strikes are being swung through.
