Zone or directional
So question I suck at hitting but I'm trying to figure out what interface I do better. When I started I use directional and I was doing good then I restart and lost my mojo. Now I'm back to zone but I don't know. When I was doing directional I was just always holding up was I doing it wrong?Tags: None -
Re: Zone or directional
You only want to move the stick the way you want to hit the ball. If you want a fly ball hold it up. Ground ball hold down. If you want to hit it to the left or right hold it that way. I use it and dont even move the stick. -

Re: Zone or directional
Depends on what you want. Directional will make a lesser player play above their abilities, but hamper a good player because it limits control. Zone is trickier to use, however a better player will benefit from it because they are in full control. ratings do come into play as well with zone. But good solid contact feels a lot less random with zone. Me personally I lean to zone. I'd rather my solid contact be more based on me hitting the ball, along with dice rolls, instead of being more heavily based on dice rolls. Zone just feels much more rewarding in my opinion.Comment

Zone is really nice if you swing at everything that you believe will be a strike as you generally look for the specific location you have your PCI on and nothing else with zone hitting.Comment

Re: Zone or directional
Ok guys. I need some input here. I have always been a zone All-Star + caliber hitter on The Show and this year I decided to try Directional and at first (during exhibition games), I really liked it so I started by Franchise on Directional Hitting with Dynamic Difficulty and about 20 or so games into the season something happened. I had progressed all the way up to All Star +++ on hitting and then suddenly I wasn't making good contact anymore; my batting averages began to plummet and I found it horribly difficult to score runs! After 10 or so games since this happened, I've dropped all the way down to Veteran level hitting, and I'm scoring maybe 2-3 runs a game, if that.
So now on Veteran I hardly ever strike out, I'm seeing pitches and drawing walks consistently. I'll get my share of singles and doubles, but homers are suddenly non-existent and for the life of me, I get runners on base and cannot get the big hit to score runs. So, my difficulty remains on Veteran, and I feel like I should be clobbering pitching on Veteran, and for some odd reason I'm not making solid contact in timely, high-leverage situations.
So, here's what I think I'm doing - tell me if I'm wrong:
I feel like I started to inadvertently move the left analog stick (too much?) when using Directional hitting and I'll get a cookie down the middle (or middle in), move the analog to the right to pull it (with a lefty up) and I either pop it up sky high or hit a line drive right at the outfielder. Seems like this happens WAY too often. Now, when I don't move the left analog, I usually make better contact, but it's not powerful contact as I see virtually no home runs and when I do hit one, it barely makes it out. Using X button mostly, sometimes square for power and sometimes O for contact depending on the hitter.
So, I'm thinking with my tendancy to move the left analog (perhaps ruining my chance for consistent solid contact), I'm thinking I may have to go back to zone. I've been doing BPs with players using Directional and I'm having no trouble with it in practice...I just cannot seem to string runs together in games.
What am I doing wrong? Anyone else struggling with Directional Hitting this way? Frustrating! I feel like I'm maybe doing something wrong with that left analog stick and that's why my hitting is suffering....
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. ThxComment

Re: Zone or directional
Moving the PCI feels more touchy this year. Try altering your thumb placement to on the stick to help make smoother more subtle movements instead of jerking the stick. (No immature jokes please.)Comment

Re: Zone or directional
Instead of resting the pad of your thumb on the stick, try getting your thumb joint to go 90 degrees, and use the tip. It's a little awkward at 1st, but in 2 strike situations where you need to be defensive it helps. As you have more contol of the stick and can use more subtle movements.
With no strikes or 1 strike. Sit on a location, look for it to come to where you are sitting. If it doesn't take a strike (or a ball) no point hitting a weak grounder or pop up if you don't have to.
Now with 2 strikes obviously you need to be defensive and put it into play by any means nessesary.Comment
