    Rebuilding the Rockies, NEED HELP!

I seem to be struggling with how I should go about building the Rockies. For some odd reason, with the crappy pitching staff they have this years game, they have managed to build a decent lead in the NL West with me playing only a handful of games in my current franchise.

Instead of building a scenario in my head that the greedy Monfort brothers have sold the team, I want to stick to their abysmal strategy. I figure by sticking to this "standard", I wont steam roll every year and win countless championships.

Which brings me to what I need input on, OVR caps. I figure since the Rockies usually shop the bargain bins and scrap heaps, I want to limit myself to older players and guys looking for second chances after having catastrophic years. I was thinking a cap of around 78 for free agent pitchers and 80-85 for position players.

Of course for the home grown talent, I had ideas of not signing pitchers for more than 10 million a year and position players of course there will be no cap (see Tulo and CarGo)

What do you guys think? Any help from outsiders and Rockies fans would be greatly appreciated.

This would be one challenging rebuild for me, as I am mainly dependent on good pitching in all my franchises. I would probably be willing to part with Tulo if I could get some good young pitchers in return. I'd probably have to think outside the box in Colorado. I might even go so radical as having 10 starters & 3 relievers. Each starter would pitch 3 & only 3 innings at a time. The starter that pitched the 7th & 8th inning would only pitch those two innings. The 9th inning on would be for the 3 relievers & I'd look for relievers with minimum 40 Stamina. The most risky thing would be any game that went beyond 12 or 13 innings. Last year they only had one game beyond 13 innings & 14 total extra inning games.
I think I've found my experiment for Show 16

      Trade Cargo & Tulo
Focus your rotation on sinker ball pitchers.
Try to build a roster similar to the Orioles, Def/Pow
Arenado is a great centerpiece for building an infield.

Re: Rebuilding the Rockies, NEED HELP!

I too am rebuilding the Rockies. I'm 31-31, playing one game and simming two throughout the season. I'm one game back of the second WC spot and four games back in the division.

Tuloitzki and Arenado both got hurt, missing fifty days, both have twenty days left on the DL.

I called up Angelys Nina and Omar Quintanilla, and both are filling in decently.

As for pitching? Matzek and Kendrick are struggling. Lyles and Butler have been pleasant surprises. Lyles is 8-1, Butler is 6-2 I believe. I called up Gus Schlosser from Triple A, he's 0-2 but has a sub 3 ERA. I decided to call up top prospect Jon Gray, he will make his major league debut on Monday Night Baseball against the Astros.

The bullpen has been a problem. I DFAed Rafael Betancourt and Latroy Hawkins. I signed Aaron Poreda (was a 67 overall) in spring training. Poreda has been awesome, he's developed up to ~ a 70 overall. I'm using Rex Brothers and Boone Logan as a two man closer committee. I sent Ottavino to Class A because he's out for the season IRL due to Tommy John. Christian Friedrich is doing well as a long reliever. John Axford has been awful, his ERA is atrocious.

I drafted some pitchers, a catcher, a shortstop, and a third baseman in the draft.

As for how I plan to rebuild them? I don't know what to do with Tulo. His trade rumors are heating up IRL but he said he won't force his way out. Part of me wants to keep him, and have him be a Rockie for life, but I could get a decent return for him. I want to trade Carlos Gonzalez and Drew Stubbs.

I plan on building through the draft and trying to make smart moves in free agency.

I have considered trading Tulo and Cargo, but thats holes I wont be able to fill right away.

I did go through my first off-season and managed to stick to my plan above and got some decent players. I upgraded my rotation with pitchers with ovrs between 70-79 and so far I am 41-45 and have the 15th best era.

In the draft I went pitcher heavy and got 2 A potential pitchers that have a MLB ETA of 2018 so that will surely help.
