    Re: draft prospect

My best and highest OVR prospect ever drafted was a SS at 76, whose potential was around 97 if I remember correctly. Naturally, I was playing with the Cubs, and didn't need another middle infielder but man that was one heck of a player.

Yea it can happen but the strength of the draft class is everything. I try to restart the draft until I get a class I want with some studs.

        Re: draft prospect

While the other teams in my franchise drafted high potential guys in the draft, I drafted a 74 ovr/91 potential switch hitting first baseman. ETA is 2016. Mid 70's when it comes to contact and low 70's when it comes to power. I don't know how he just fell into my lap as I had the 17th pick, but I'll take it.

I really wish we had the ability to start them in A ball after the draft, especially after last season with what happened with Brandon Finnegan of the Royals.

I could've drafted the C before the Rays did, but i needed bullpen help I drafted a couple of rp's but no pot higher than 70. Might have to restart the draft next year with my cubs great his year. I wanna go after price after season but dont wanna give up draft pick. After my first pick my next wasnt until 3rd round. I made a few trades so my sp's are set so i don't need Price.
Brian Kelly will have ND back this year.

Arizona State will bounce back this year too.

The Cubs will end the streak next year

When you sign an A type free agent do you lose draft pick?

With the Twins in my first draft I got a 99 POT SP with my 1st round pick, then in the 4th round I got a 94 POT SP.

There are no more Type A and B Free Agents. If you sign any FA that has been given a Qualifying Offer, you will lose a draft pick.

                  Re: draft prospect

I got a 99 potential C but he's only a 41 overall. So I'm hoping he progresses quickly. I also got a LF in the 4th round who is a D potential but already a 74 overall. Based on his contact and power ratings he could be my starting DH right now over CJ Cron. His fielding rating is only in the 20s.

What can I expect from a kid like that? Does his low potential mean he'll regress? Because with both contact and power ratings already in the 70s at 19 years old he doesn't really need to get better to be a solid DH/PH for me. As long as he doesn't start to decline at 20 years old...

drafted a 1B that had a 74 ovr but had a 95 potential and he is living up to it.

Yeah, his overall will gravitate toward his potential. If he plays well though, you should be able to raise his potential a little. Odds are he will just always be a low 70's player, and will hit a steep decline when he gets older. He won't be of much use in his 30's.

Thats why i took a page from the Astros playbook and didn't draft over 21. There were a few 22 yr old sp that had better pot but i went with the cp.

I drafted an 18 year old SS, who is only 5'7, in the 2nd round. His name is Stephen Lentz. He was 79 ovr, with A (93) potential. Started in AA, and tore up, moved him to AAA after the all-star break, and he stayed hot the entire year. Moved him to the majors to start the following season, where he started as a 19 year old, at 82 overall. His potential had progressed to 96 from being so hot in the minors. He's pretty well rounded, with nearly all of his ratings in the mid-high 70's. His steal rating is in the 90's, but his speed is like 72. Contact vs left and right are both approaching 80, but his power is in the 20's. He'll never hit for much power, but he is always on base. Due to his small strike zone, I get a lot of fat pitches with him.

                            Re: draft prospect

I'm in 2016 of my Cubs Carryover Franchise and in 2014 with the 4th Pick I drafted a 20 Yr Old Catcher, Brandon Uchida, who was a 66 OVR with 99 POT. He's a 72 now I gave him a cup of coffee when Montero got hurt earlier this year. I plan on starting him next year.

In 2015 with the 16th pick I drafted an 18 yr Old 2B, Barrett Willis, who was a 72 OVR and 88 POT. The best part is his secondary positions are SS, 3B and all 3 OF positions so I can play him anywhere once I call him up. Right now he is my starting 2B in AA.

Just moved him to 2B this season, and he just won a batting title, and a Silver Slugger (Silver Slugger weighs batting average entirely too much in their equation) just last season, which was his second season. You may be on to something.

In my Cubs season where I only hit every game and simulate the pitching, I took this 19 YO CF named George Quintana. 6'1, 200. 94 potential and already a 75 overall! He's a switch hitter that has contact of (R/L) 79/57 and power of 69/53. Average fielder and 69 speed with 71 stealing. Can't wait to see how he is. I'm guessing he may make the majors in his rookie season to provide the Cubs with another solid young bat.
