Zero point in having a good defensive catcher online when baserunning is so op

May have to start treating the Catcher position as my DH in DD...

Molina or Salvador Perez...well it doesn't matter because good runners will run left and right against these catchers anyway.

Stealing 3rd base is an absolute joke...I can see it coming, side delivery, pitch out...whatever...I can't stop a speedy guys anyway.

Hamilton or Ellsbury get to first base? may as well count it as a triple.

Don't forget about the squeeze bunt when they get to third.

Slidestep. Throw over. Vary time to plate.

I got Yadi in my gold rewards on day 1 and he's played every game for me. If not for that, I would have went with the DH catcher plan, but it's worked out surprisingly well defensively.

Back when I had the patience to play through a buntfest, in one game I picked off 4 or 5 guys at first, and with slide steps and pitchouts(ya, he was running back to first on pitchouts) Molina gunned them down at almost 40%, which is close enough to realistic. And that was the typical Hamilton, Young jr, Altuve, etc..

It wasn't fun at all, and I would never waste an hour doing it again, but having a great defensive catcher can give you some outs.

I made My Created Character my Catcher I rarely have anyone successfully steal 2nd base on me. Even Hamilton. But when I do have someone with 90+ steal I always quick pitch with a high fastball and then simply gun them down.

Lefty 1st baseman is more important to controlling the running game. A right handed 1st baseman makes pickoffs impossible. He can't get the tag down even with a 2 step lead.

This was true before the 1st or 2nd patch but they changed something so it's pretty much impossible no matter what type of 1st baseman you have.

I just picked 7 guys off in a game with Lester and Rizzo. Guy kept taking the extra step, I kept making him pay.

Weird. I hardly ever pick anyone off anymore. Maybe there's more than one way to pickoff. I couldn't tell you what method I use. I think it's one of the trigger buttons and then base

I have been able to gun down some good to very good base stealers. It's not easy and your not supposed to able to gun them down a lot.

Guys with 80 or less speed I am nailing at the decent clip. The higher rated guys are a lot tougher no doubt.

It's about the set up, how you pitch, throwing over, carefully timed and unexpected pitch outs etc.

There is a great cat and mouse element to getting great base swipers that makes it quite satisfying when you do.

I use my created player BTW at catcher.

I always use the Deceptive. Quick tends to airmail the ball.

I unfortunately got matched up against one of those speed cheesers with a lineup full of speedy guys and ALWAYS put a steal on.

Actually, is it EVER possible to pick off a runner this year online? I have mentioned this before, but when a runner takes a lead (just one is fine), then no matter what I do (all the variants of pick off throws... quick, deceptive, normal, stepping off the plate), I just cannot pick them off.

Just to annoy the opponent (who must know the use of the exploitation was annoying me), I kept throwing pickoffs (often 5 or 6, consecutively), to no avail.

I don't expect any more patch to drop in, but this is a very unfortunate issue. It makes so many DD games just plain unenjoyable, from a baseball stand point.

i dont know if u can, i played a guy with speed players like you mentioned as well, and i tried to pick his one player off about 10 times before i said to hell with this and threw a slide step pitch, but of course he stole the base on that 1 pitch i threw after all those pick off attempts.

I was able to pick someone off with a deceptive move last night but it may have been with a LHP. I don't think I've ever picked anyone off using deceptive from a RHP.

I checked the SB success of some of my own players and they are usually safe 19 out of 20 times whereas IRL this is rare.
