The comet tail?

Sometimes when I hit pop flies there are and when I hit long flyballs there's a comet tail trailing the ball and other times there is not. What the heck does it mean when there is one trailing?

I believe the default setting is for ball trail to only show in day games.

The bright background makes the ball hard to pick up.

You can take it off, its in the settings option.
