    Free Home!

This just happened to me, and it has happened to me in the past as well. This is the problem when the game is built around situational animations instead of a direct user-interface system where I press a button to trigger what I want to trigger. How do I trigger the animation where the catcher does his job? How do I avoid this?

Though quite funny, the play cost me the game. I am a fairly charitable man, but I don't really appreciate home plate being given away without my input!

But seriously... what exactly did I do "wrong," and is there a specific way to make sure this doesn't happen?

Yeah this happened to me before as well, though I was the one who stole home in extra innings and won the game because of it. Not sure how it happens really and what one can do about it.

This does happen sometimes. I've seen CPU does it and also in my own game.

I think in general with the new fielding A.I. the fielders sometimes seem to lose the focus on what they are/should be doing.

        1. Mash x when the runner is near
        2. Charge up the line right at the runner
        3. Gently gesture with the left stick at the runner

Any of the three could theoretically work, and any of the three could not work.

Does this happen with auto fielding too? I have never seen that.

I'm fortunate that I haven't seen that yet, but several times I've had the following happen:

Batter hits a slow roller down the line. Third basemen runs away like the ball has a bomb on it. Ball rolls foul. And that's with auto fielding.

I understand the third basemen trying to let the ball go foul, but it just looks funny seeing him take off across the diamond to get away from it.

I feel issues like this are related to the new tag system they added this year where players will actively try to tag the other player model somewhere on their body.

This has created so many issues though like fielders just whiffing on tags during rundowns or players at the bags simply not laying a tag down at all. I like that the devs tried something new, but at this point I think I'd rather have the old system. Hopefully they clean it up for MLB 16. It's been one of the most frustrating aspects online.

It can't be exclusively tied to the tag system, because this exact play has definitely happened to me in previous years.

Just don't move the left stick. For some reason, if you move the player it takes away the tag animation.

In previous years I've had the catcher freeze where I've lost control. I'm not sure I've personally seen the catcher just refusing to make a tag. I've seen this at home and on the bases this year quite a bit. It's like whatever is supposed to trigger the fielder to initiate a tag breaks too often this year.

                      Re: Free Home!

This happened to me in a tied DD game. The guy had runners on second and third with one out. He hit a grounder to the first baseman, and I threw home in time to get the runner from third on the tag. As my catcher is still standing there, having tagged out the first runner, the runner from second keeps running, and somehow my catcher just stands there. I didn't even notice him not stopping at third, so I didn't have my catcher run the line. Even if I did, I would have been afraid that I would still somehow miss the tag.
