    Plays at the plate

Is it just me or are catchers really slow to make a tag. It seems like if the runner starts his slide by the time the ball gets there he will be safe every time. It really ruins close plays at home for me, because it feels like the ball has to be there WAY ahead of the runner.
    Most recent example. https://vimeo.com/129281215

CPU base running aggressiveness is nuts they're always taking the extra base. It's already difficult to beat the runner to the base but then when you actually do and your player doesn't move, it kind of kills the game.

There are some situations where tagging doesn't work very well. Especially at 2nd base. It seems like the tag animation at 2nd (on throws from the outfield) doesn't even cover the area where the runner slides.

The example you posted is a bad one though. There's nothing wrong with that play. The catcher started going for the tag as soon as he caught the ball

I thought that it already was, and was one of the talking points for this year's release?

It was but it's really been an issue since release. There are plenty of examples floating around these forums of missed tags that shouldn't be missed as well I've had animations where a player has the ball in his hand but his arm clips through the player he's trying to tag only to be safe because technically the ball didn't touch him. The tags at home are actually the least troubling of examples I've seen but it could definetly still be better.

I think the big issue is they made it so the fielder swipes when he tags. Which does happen IRL but a proper tag should be that the fielder holds his glove on the bag and waits for the runner to slide into it and adjusts accordingly to where the runner slides. The way they implemented it in game it seems the timing with the swipe is just off.

I appreciate the work they did on the tag system and it is better since they patched it but it's still not great. I hope they redo it again next year.

Watch the slow motion part again. You'll see him catch the ball, rotate his whole body left, then start his tag. Instead of it being one fluid motion. This extra rotation is causing the slight delay of the tag; which is allowing runners that should out, to be safe. If it was turned into one fluid motion, or just sped up, I think it would solve a lot of problems.

I don't have this year's event game, but I didn't think it was something that was that out of whack to begin with. There's plenty other areas that that could use attention rather than the the tag system. Not sure why they even changed any of it to begin with.

Ya I don't really recall thinking anything was wrong with the old system either. On the other hand it's hard to be upset about them trying to implement new things and making things better. Sometimes the best layed plans go awry. I have every confidence that they'll get it figured out for next year.

I don't see the connection to turning on auto throw and the tagging system in the game. I don't think that would solve anything.

I guess if it's auto throw the cpu will know how to throw maybe I'm stretching it
