I've played this series religiously since I bought a PS3 back in 2009 (and more recently a PS4 at launch) and the differences of checking your swing between previous entries and '15 have been pretty extreme for me, seeing as I rely on checking my swing a lot with my approach. Rather than just taking a pitch all the way a lot of times, I make a lot of last second decisions to hold off on my swing by nudging on the analog stick but at the last second backing off. Up until this year's game, it worked fairly well. I'd say out of every 10 check swings, the umpires would say I went around maybe 3 times. But in '15 that number is pretty much in reverse, with every 10 checks I go around a good 7-8 times. I don't know if its just me or if the developers have changed something with the analog swing mechanic, making it more sensitive, because it seems that even the slightest nudge forward on the stick makes my hitter flail his bat and I rarely ever see the baseline umpires give me the safe sign anymore.

Check Swings
Is it just me or have swings become much more difficult to check in MLB 15?

Re: Check Swings
Oh really? So, you have been experiencing this problem too? I truly feel like the umps have it out for me. lol Its caused me to try and hold off on swings completely and made me much less aggressive with my hitting approach.
So shutting off appeals helps? Does it just automatically call your check swing in your favor?Comment

Re: Check Swings
Oh ok, Well, I could give that a try then, I guess. I don't mind the act of getting an appeal, but it just seems extremely difficult to get an appeal to go your way this year.Comment

Re: Check Swings
I have noticed problems with the check swings for several years now. IMHO they had it much more accurate back when analog hitting first started, and now the umps get it wrong more than they get it right. I actually think its slightly better this year when compared to the past 2-3 years.Comment

So if turning off appeals helps alleviate this issue, I'm more than happy to try it out.Comment

Re: Check Swings
IMO, it's just much more sensitive this year...and I like it. At first, I was having the same problem as you, getting pretty mad at some of the check swings I was getting called for strikes. It seems to me that there are 2 significant factors making it more difficult: (1) the swing button is more sensitive this year, so an even lighter press is necessary for the correct check, and (2) as you go up in difficulty, the timing window to check becomes smaller and thus more difficult (as you prob already know).
Personally, though, after having played close to 100 games now, I actually like it much better than in the past. Before, in an online match or match against another human, for example, a player could check swing almost all game getting kind of an advantage on the pitcher. Now, it's much more difficult to do that, and making the play much more realistic IMO. It's even more important now to see the pitch well and out-think the pitcher to get a sense of what's coming and where.Last edited by bfindeisen; 06-01-2015, 02:35 PM.Comment

Re: Check Swings
I don't know if they are more difficult. Sometimes I have a hard time checking my swing and others I think it checks it when I didn't think it would. I think it could be refined and more consistent for sure.Comment
