    Trying to adjust the difficulty after catching up with my settings.

    Hello all,

    I have a couple of questions here. I'm trying to shake up my RTTS difficulty a bit so I'll provide some background info.

    So;

    1). Is directional hitting the same as timed if you make no directional input?

    2). Are large numbers of HRs relative to number of hits normal for directional hitting or was I just underperforming in that area previously? (See background below)

    I'm five years into my RTTS career as a Shortstop for the Mariners.

    I started on last years game and was hitting well in A and AA using All Star hitting, the zone interface and TNKs 2014 sliders. MLB was a learning curve for the second half of 2015 and I finished at .259.

    This years game seemed a lot tougher initially though. I continued from midways through the 2016 season and slumped badly. So I sought some advice by starting a thread on here which got a lot of responses and some really good discussion and advice. I tweaked my settings a little bit in my favour slowing pitch speed to 6 and putting human timing up to 8 and then locked the difficulty at Veteran +.

    Initially I thought I'd cracked it, I finished .289 in 2017 which relative to my players attributes (90s contact. high 80s power, 99 vision) seemed like a step in the right direction and in 2018 I finished .329. That was slightly higher than I was hoping for because I'd had bad cold streaks offset by ridiculous hot streaks and I knew if I was more consistent the following season I would end up with really stupid numbers. So I gave myself the first month in 2019 and as expected I ended up in the .390s with no signs of slowing down.

    What I've done is put in TNKs 2015 sliders and upped the difficulty to All Star. Pitches are a lot faster (I like the feeling) and I feel like I can probably get more hits on off speed pitches. However, with the zone interface I felt like I was going to struggle quite badly, my PCI is now pretty small and as a result I need to move it more often which is just not really possible (for me) at these pitch speeds.

    So I thought I'd try directional in batting practice. It sort of feels like timed hitting if I make no input but my main concern (other than my low batting average - around .240/50) is the number of home runs I'm getting. In 43 at-bats I got 9 hits, 3 liners and 6 home runs. To put that into context, in my three full length MLB seasons I've had 24, 24 and 21 home runs respectively. Was I underperforming with HRs with zone hitting or?

    I'm torn at the moment between staying at All-Star and directional or maybe going back to Veteran + and zone and letting the increased pitch speed and smaller timing window of TNKs unmodified 2015 sliders take my numbers down on their own.

    My preference is for the game to be challenging relative to the quality of my player. I want to have to work hard at the plate and get good numbers for my effort.

    Anyway, apologies for the length of this, I realise it's not the most concise set of questions. If you have any thoughts on any of this I'd be really interested to hear them.

    Thanks!

    1. Yes

    2. Can't really answer that so someone else will have to chime in.
