Where do you place your PCI while using zone hitting?

I just started getting into Diamond Dynasty and since zone gives you the biggest benefit I've getting the hang of that. What helped me the most was leaving the PCI in a specified spot and swing if the pitch is near it and lay off if not. It's helped a ton with my patience.

My question is... how do you choose where to leave your PCI? Should I change it based on my batters hot zones? Should I change it based on where the pitcher is throwing to? What makes you decide where to sit and wait with the PCI batter to batter, pitch to pitch? I am good at sticking with an area and laying off pitches not near it, but I am not sure how to decide what area of the strike zone I should be swinging at.

    Good topic.

Most of the time in Diamond Dynasty I play based on reaction and do pretty well - that is, I get a general location the ball is heading in and move the PCI to meet it. This approach also allows to have my best plate discipline as I won't commit to swinging until I can see where the ball's going. This is also my 2 strike approach - the plan is to just put the ball in play at that point, and I can still foul off even the inside fastball if the PCI was too far away, but I get good timing.

If that's not working later in the game I'll try to anticipate where the pitcher's going to throw, based on how he's pitched earlier in the game, and hold the PCI there. In this situation I'm much more susceptible to chasing pitches out of the zone because I'm liable to swing at anything in the general area of where I put the PCI (and ignore everything else). I don't use hot zones very much, because (A) It's not a very strong effect and (B) The pitcher can see it too and will be trying to avoid those areas in hitter's counts.

Thanks. All the advice I have read/watched is about the mechanic of zone hitting and not the fine details that I struggle with.

I would like to try to keep the same approach for DD and franchise mode but I know real people pitch a bit different and you have to adapt more. The thing is if I use the method of leaving the PCI middle then reacting to the pitch I end up swinging at EVERYTHING that looks in the strike zone. When I leave it at one location some of the things I don't swing at are strikes but some are balls too. It feels about a 50/50 chance.

So you don't think the hot zones in DD and franchise are worth following? I was thinking of using a method where for same sided matchups (righty righty, lety lefty) I would try to focus on swinging dead center/top center/inside middle/inside top then for opposite (righty lefty, lefty righty) I would focus on the six squares top to bottom middle and top to bottom inside. Those are the common places people think of as meatballs I gather.

But lets say a batter has blue zones in those areas and red zones on the bottom 3 squares, should I be attacking that instead? I kind of wish the hot/cold zones mattered more so I was forced to look for different pitches for different batters but I am sure they don't really affect things that much as you say.

The other thing is in a video on zone hitting that cardinalsfan put out, the dude who rakes in DD and is a top ranked player, his method is to wait low and inside and only swing at pitches there. That doesn't really make sense to me but it does work and helps with being selective. But you would think you would get better hit results from hitting pitches up in the zone more.

        On the ball.

Early in the count I look for a specific spot than broaden the grid with 2 strikes. I use contact swing a lot with 2 strikes and less than 2 outs. You don't have to be spot on with the PCI, timing is still an important factor. I've been spot on with the PCI and hit long outs by being a bit early or late. I've had my high school players tell me The Show has helped them with their approach to hitting because they are actually going up to the plates thinking about hitting situations and training their hitting eye.

I been going back and forth with this hitting since the game came out. But right now I finally got it to my liking. I'm using zone and I do guess location and pitch. If I don't guess correctly I leave the PCI in the middle. Now I just got to find a camera angle

Pretty much my approach, as well.
