I am 20 million over budget and have no money to sign draft picks , free agents, my own people, nothing. It started last season when after signing my own free agents I was 12 mil over budget. I could not sign any of my draft picks after the draft and now at the end of the season I am 20 mil over budget and had an off season in which I lost every player except 55. I have no money and am still 20 million over budget. Any help would be appreciated

Sounds like you need a salary dump, much like the Red Sox did when they unloaded Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez, et al to the Dodgers for prospects and salary relief. Not sure where you are in your franchise, but you might want to explore that possibility.

I bet you have 12 starters making about 20 mil each. You can't run a team like that. You are going to have to dump those players, and take a hit for the next couple of years in order to rebuild.

The only way you going to fill your roster is sign the worst players on the free agent maker in order to fill your roster….even if that is possible. I don't know if the game still lets you play with a full rosters on your minor leagues.

You should have looked at other players instead of signing knowing you where already over…but that is in the past.

Another thought is just start over….learn from your mistakes. You are not the first to do this I am sure.

But if he has a bad team and tanks in order to rebuild, won't he be fired as GM and have to pick a new team anyway?

@Spokker, I guess that depends on his Owner's goals. If they are already in rebuild mode, that might give him some leeway for a year or two.

Ah, I didn't know there was a rebuild mode.

Come to think of it, it might be a good time to figure out how people are doing with the owner goals now that a few fantasy seasons have passed for many players.

No offense here, but if you screwed up the budget that bad, to where you are that far over budget and still only have 55 players? You deserve to get fired. Were you not even paying attention when signing players?

This is precisely why I always safe an extra file at the beginning of the offseason, so I can go back and alter my offseason strategy in case something like this happens.

You MUST have overpaid for some of your own free agents, whom you could have simply renewed their contract at the same salary. Only way to explain how you could be $20 million over budget with just 55 players on the roster.....
