    Re: Commentary Thread

Love it or hate it, the commentary in this game (and in 2K) is superior to every other sports game with the exception (maybe) of the NHL series with EA. And that even includes WWE (which my step-son plays and loves).

Coincidentally, the NHL uses Gary Thorne and he's just as outstanding there as he is in MLB2K. Maybe it's just baseball that leads to better and less repetitive commentary. Madden, NCAA, and TW (now Rory golf) are all really awful. Phil Simms? No thanks. I've never heard more negative commentary in a game before or since.

Played a game with historical rosters and I froze Ted Williams on a curve ball. I know it wasn't intentional, but the comment cracked me up.

Games like NHL, NBA, and FIFA probably have really repetitive commentary, but it's during action and is accepted repetitiveness. For example, when they pass to one another or shoot.

MLB, NFL, and PGA have so much downtime that the majority of talk is analysis, and the play-by-play can be so much more descriptive/specific as well because every scenario is plenty unique.

So it's not necessarily that some development teams are doing it better than others, or that some crews are perhaps more talented than others (though maybe it is), but there is a bit of distortion there if you really think about it.

While anything gets repetitive if you hear it every day, I find the commentary to be the BEST of any sports game I've every played... last night in my RTTS game, there were several rare things said that matched perfectly with what had just happened.

If I had to rank top games based on announcing only from best to worst, it would be: 1. Mlb 2k. 2. Mlb Slugfest. 3. All-star baseball. 4. The show. 5. MVP.
1458, not counting playoffs, that's the number of games in a row I haven't missed! Go Yanks!

Nothing ever beats slugfest. By far the best commentary in any game ever.

It's weird for me because Slugfest is a game I know I played the crap out of, but oddly, can't remember much about the game itself, other than it's over-the-top NFL street feel to it.

You catch on fire, punch people, and listen to announcers that sound like they're straight outta crank yankers

I was playing it today! Man, the pbp guy Tim really gets into it!! I realize it even more now, after playing the show and hearing Matt.

Yeah, I do remember the catching fire part. The announcers not so much. BUT, no offense to the devs for The Show, I'd take crank yankers over The Shows commentary any day, at this point.

Yeah, it's not lines repeating that is the problem in the show, I }nt real excitement from the pbp man. I've been playing all the old baseball games lately, and it makes it so much more fun when you hear Jon Miller or Tim from Slugfest call your homers.

Get rid of the 'broadcast' completely, and improve on stadium ambience. Make it feel like you're actually at the park.
MLB: live in-person>>>>>watching on tv. Make it that way on The Show. Broadcast presentation is becoming old hat.

Not that I disagree with you (well I do actually), but I'd like for a "on field" presentation to be more than adjusting some volume slider options, namely muting the announcers. There is so much more to it than that, and it would be nice for it to be a whole new capture and feel/sound than the TV option.

But because they spend their time making everything else so TV-like (except for the fielding camera), it would be weird to remove announcers.
