Samsung Smart TVs and input lag

Thinking about getting a new TV, specifically a samsung smart TV (needs to have HBO go!) and i'm keeping the show in mind because I know input lag plays a big role in hitting in this game..

Anyone have experience with a samsung smart TV and the show? I've been doing some research online (mostly rtings) and it seems like the samsung smart TVs are middle of the road-ish when it comes to input lag, even on game mode, but I wanted to see if any OS members could lend their 1st hand experience. If you have had good/bad experiences and could share you model number that would be helpful too.

I play every day and I use a Samsung UN55F6300 55-Inch 1080p 120Hz Slim Smart LED HDTV*. It's almost 2 years old but the game mode on TV is great and I don't experience input lag that has me blame my lack of timing or my up and down wins and losses on the TV. It has all your apps including HBO but the "smart" TV can be laggy at times. Below are links to amazon and a review on gaming. Lmk if you have any questions... I highly, highly! recommend turning the game mode on if you plan on playing online multiplayer because the input lag is right at 30 millaseconds (MS), which is top tier. Why does this matter? Say your playing Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and all the sudden you see a guy and you pull the trigger. you unload endless rounds of your Lsat into him but he shoots two rounds from his MP7 and kills you.HUH?? this is because of input lag. While your gaming console instantly registered the trigger pull (shots), it took the TV MS to recieve the game's actions, IE: you being shot at. so even though it seemed like he only shot 2 rounds he actually shot more, but since your tv is running difference processes it slows down its processing speed, thus causing input lag. so ideally you want a TV with low MS as possible for gaming. with game mode turned OFF, this TV is running at about 120 MS so, you only need to turn the game mode on when your playing online. TO ACCESS GAME MODE: press the MENU button, select setup, then select GENERAL. Game mode will be on the top and you can turn it ON/OFF. Then adjust your Picture settings accordingly! When I am playing a single player game on xbox 360, (skyrim, mass effect) I am truly amazed by the graphics this TV produces. This picture is on par with the graphics of games shown at E3. I expected it to be good, but not this good! Again it does require some fine tuning"

Just returned a samsung 55JS7100 4K TV had a problem with lag and motion. I was late on every pitch really made me mad. I went back and bought the Sony 55X850C 4K for 1600 it was perfect no issues. I also talked to a old college buddy of mine who works on Call of Duty game for infinity ward and was told they do all their testing on Sony TV's. I trust Sony they have been making TV's much longer than Samsung and they make the best gaming unit PS4.

Hey there, I had the same problem. It is solved by changing the input you have your ps4 on to PC. It is tricky because is not that obvious and there's way too many things to change in the TV. On mine you change to PC input by clicking a little button that appears on the screen while selecting input. Is not in the remote. And then you pick PC from a list. It also helps that you do the usual changes to "no-enhancements" TV, meaning turning off any type of weird enhancement trick that is possible to turn off when on that input.

I just upgraded from a 50" Samsung Plasma (about 4 years old), to a new 58" Samsung Smart LCD (UN58H5202) and so far its been great.

I've had it for a couple weeks and I'm finding that I'm early on nearly everything...I've even moved the pitch speed slider up a couple notches.

I'd stay away from Samsung tvs due to their notorious input lag. I felt with it until I bought a Panasonic plasma which had low input lag.

So.......I upgraded from a 51" Samsung Plasma to this brand new 65" Sony 4K UHD LED the other night and OH MY GOD!!!!!!!

The TV upscales all content to 4K and this game looks absolutely AMAZING

Anybody else playing with it on a 4K set that upscales all content? WOW - I can't believe the difference graphically in the color pop and detail....the animations are actually smoother too....could not be happier with the purchase

If any of you are in the market for a 4K TV - this thing is absolutely incredible

Best thing I ever did as far as The Show is concerned was get a gaming monitor. Using Dynamic my hitting went from Rookie/Rookie+ to Veteran+ almost instantly. Even flirted with All Star hitting briefly.

Use rtings.com for each TV brand and model. They game test most games and give you exact #s for input lag.

The lag can vary drastically even within the same brands and models based on just the TV size.

I have gamed on three Samsung HDTV's in my life.

1) LNT2353H (LCD)
2) PN59D7000 (Plasma)
3) PN60F8500 (Plasma)

#2 works like a charm. Don't need Game mode or PC mode on at all. I wouldn't say lag-free, but definitely lag-friendly. In comparison, I was gaming on #1 in my college years and was having lag troubles with The Show, Rock Band, etc. I had more of an issue in COD than I had previously realized.

#3, however, is an abysmal. A firmware update helped out with PC mode I believe, but it is still worse than #1 in comparison. It was about equal to have Remote Play was before they added 60 FPS (and worked on the lag as well). Now if I play Remote Play and compare it to these TV's, it beats #1, trumps #3, and is nearly in a tie with #2.

I would not buy a newer Samsung model when it comes to gaming. You will be sorely disappointed with regard to input lag. The PN59D7000 works just fine, though.

Vizio one of the worst TV's on the planet. I friend of mine from Irvine worked for them american crappy company no R&D third parties assemble cheap brand. Good luck.

I bough this one: Samsung UN55F6300 55-Inch 1080p 120Hz Slim Smart LED HDTV (the 2013) model back around xmas time 2013. I had to put it into PC mode to cut down on the lag that I was seeing. It has worked wonders for me. Just keep that in mind.

for me when i do upgrade... Vizio very simple..

I have has quite a few TV's over the last 5-7 years, and one was the Vizio P and it was the worst TV I've ever had by far. I went through four of them before I finally talked to someone high up and convinced them to refund me. Each TV had dead pixels, one had a brown blotch on it when they brought it. They were all used and all broken in some way. Absolute abysmal customer service until they agreed to give me a refund.

Maybe you have a positive experience with their TV's, but they are basically falling off as a company as it is right now. They are moving towards budget TV's now.

I would strongly consider another brand like Sony, or LG. Or even some Samsung's, but as it's been mentioned, Samsung TV's aren't known to be the best for gaming. If OLED is out of your price range, Sony makes some good LCD TV's that are good for gaming. Also, their upscaling is great.

Zombie Thread lol. I have a Vizio from I think 2010. Maybe 2009? It still works, but my god does it have terrible input lag (I've tested, it's around 67ms with everything I can find to turn off turned off). My parents had to retire a couple vizios. One had lasted a few years, but had gotten to the point where it would take a while to fully turn on. And the other one was only a couple years old and started getting these dim spots that were almost like shadows on the screen. My next tv will likely not be a Vizio. LG's are great, but being on a budget, I'd probably end up going TCL or Hicense.
