    Player regression fix?

Is there any way to stop the insane decline older players get in franchise mode? Ortiz, A-Rod etc. end up with ratings in the 60s half way through the season, but as real life is showing us that's just not the case. I understand a slight decline but not so drastic.

Are there any custom rosters out there that stop this, or any way it can be stopped other than manually increasing their ratings all the time?

Wish I could help. The whole progression/regression system is in serious need of change.

Unfortunately, with year to year saves, making a change to the progression/regression system is even more difficult. Somewhat ironic considering that year to year saves make progression/regression even more important.

Maybe if the devs stopped doing a one year development cycle and instead brought out a new game every 2-3 years, then they can really dig in and make meaningful and sweeping changes to all the systems in the game. As it stands right now they just don't have the time and resources, and have to use old systems in order to try and cut down development time. A sad truth.

Short answer: no, no there isn't. You can continue to edit the players and cheat a bit. It may feel wrong but it's the best solution available right now.

Honestly, I don't look at editing the player "cheating" for this purpose only. For instance, Koji Uehara was an 82 to start the season and 152 games in he has a 1.39 ERA. What I do is I look at the most recent updated rosters and use that as a guide. Obviously if he were getting shelled in real life, but dominating on the game, I would come up with a rating that more closely mirrored his progress in the game.

Sorry, cheating is probably the wrong word. Still, it's up to the individual player to police themselves when solving the regression problem. The system I'm putting in place is that players HAVE to regress after 34 regardless of performance during the season, but I can "trade" between their stats. So I can spend some speed in order to keep some power, or I can spend velocity in order to keep stamina. It's not the best system, but I like it well enough because I get a regression that would be more real to life.

Absolutely. I wasn't necessarily referring to your use of the word "cheat" just wanted to point out, that if used correctly, the manual edit can be a tool that can be used for more realism. Now, there are those out there who are going to make everyone better, and let's be honest, nobody likes those people!
