    Zone vs Directional advice

    So I am having an issue with the game and I am getting a little frustrated.

    I was over achieving using directional with my new RTTS SS. I got promoted after only 45 games and expected to struggle mightily. To my surprise I held my own and ended up batting .312 with not a whole lot of power and 4 homers in 250 AB.

    Start year 2 and I got off to a torrid start and was batting near .400 with power and jacked 11 homers in in the first 5 weeks. Then found out I could use stubs to double my points earned.....

    Despite jacking my stats up fast the rest of the season was a complete struggle. I went from feeling comfortable most at bats to feeling like everything was wrong. When I did hit the ball well it was right at people. When I hit the ball with that sweet sound we all know it would always be a super high pop up to the OF instead of a homerun. Most of the time I just felt like nothing I did made a difference.

    I only hit 9 Hr the rest of the season despite getting my contact up to around 80 and power up to 75.

    I am now 140 at bats into my 3rd season and I have only hit 4 Hr, 2 of which were in the first 6 games. I have been switching back and forth between zone and directional. I seem to get more hits with directional, but, I hit more homers with zone. (Not this season though despite my power being up to 85)

    I am by no means doing poorly stats wise, but, I just can't get in a groove like past years. My confidence is so bad I moved the difficulty all the way down to rookie and I haven't noticed any improvement.

    I don't understand the struggle because I play as the Brewers in my franchise with all the same settings and I destroy everybody.

    Is RTTS just harder or does it handle settings differently? It seems like the better my player gets the worse I do....

    What is everyone's opinion on directional vs zone?

    I know this wasn't one of the answers you were looking for, but it sounds like your issue is with your RttS's batting stance. You've tried both directional and zone, and you've tried changing the difficulty.

    I think part of the problem is mental. I know in my franchise when certain players come to the plate and they have been struggling, it effects my timing and judgment.

    But there are also some batting stances that regardless of the players stats, I just can't play well with. I'm not and RttS player but I believe you can edit your players stance.

      Ok first question I have is what difficulty are you playing on. RTTS handles the level of difficulty differently than normal.

      Just to use veteran for example

      AA = Rookie
      AAA = Veteran
      MLB = All Star

      Secondly. Switching back and forth too quickly will only make matters worse. Remember that it is a 162 game season. Ups and downs and such. If you keep switching every couple of games you are taking yourself out of your own groove. If you need to compare, I would at minimum do 5 if not 10 game samples.

      Hitting styles are purely a personal choice. They are all set up to be equally challenging. Just find what you like and what works for you.

      EDIT Also what is your Vision rating?

        Re: Zone vs Directional advice

        I usually play on veteran. I have eye issues so it is hard for me to distinguish balls from strikes so I turn the pitch speed all the way down.

        My vision is 99.

        Thing is, why did I do so well and then everything became a struggle? Maybe the game moving to All Star increased pitch speed? Didn't affect me at first until a month in?

        Maybe the stance thing is on point. I transferred my 14 guy and didn't have any issues. I am using Tulowitski on my new guy. Maybe I will change it to default 1 which I use a lot.

        I have been playing the Show for years and I have never felt like I have struggle this long. Usually by the time i get my guy built up any where near where I am now things get easier.

          Wow...so I changed my stance to default 1 which is what I usually use.
          First 2 games I went 7 for 10 with 2 homers.....I would have never thought that would matter!

          Instead of being late on the fastball I was hitting it down the right field line like normal.....

          Thanks guys!

          I am going to go turn the dif back up....

            yup stances help. probably not in the way that makes the ball travel further or what have you but your ability to hit the ball.

            for example. i my self have a real hard time using players that have a more straight up batting stance like Tulo or Chris Davis, etc. but guys like Navarro, Bautista i can totally rake with. Heck in my offline franchice with the jays, Navarro was my home run king until he went down with a injury but his stance is what i was able to use well with.

              Hum, funny, I thought it was just me and that I was just compatible with the likes of Navarro and Bautista. I was definitely hitting well above Navarro's ability while he was still on my team, so much so that he was hitting 5th. Meanwhile, despite being in decline, Bautista is well on his way to a third straight MVP season.

              I thought certain people were just more compatible with certain swings, but I wonder if there are batting stances that are just universally better (or worse). I know there has been a lot of talk in the DD threads about Joc Pederson's swing, but 99% of my playtime is in my franchise carried over from 2014 (default rosters) so I've never had a chance to play with his particular swing.

                Never knew the stance actually change the ability to hit.

                I thought it was mostly cosmetic to represent the player's signature styles, etc.

                Maybe that's why Stanton is more streaky for me in my franchise than Davis (funny because you mention Davis being one you don't prefer).

                Really going to have to make notes. Might start signing/trading for players based on their stances

                  Before I make a trade, I usually take the trade target into batting practice just so I can check out his stance.
