    Thinking about upgrading to PS4...

I am a 24-year old college student who is finishing up his degree this semester taking a couple night classes. Back when PS4 and Xbox One came out, I decided I didn't want to buy either as I didn't have much time to play the current systems I have now (own both 360 and ps3). Going into a career where I will likely work 8-4:40, 9-5 type of days Monday-Friday, I am going to have a lot of free time just wanting to relax during the evenings and weekends (also factoring I have a gf).

I'm thinking about buying a PS4 as a gift for my hard work over the past few years to get to this point in my life but really trying to justify getting a new system for the amount of money it is. I know for sure I would have to buy MLB: The Show 16 for my love of baseball (and because the quality on the PS3 isn't as good anymore as it was before PS4 came out). I'd obviously get a few other games as well such as: Batman: Arkham Knight, Dying Light, Uncharted 4 when it is out, Last of Us 2 (this game is inevitable and loved the first one).

I was just asking for other opinions here. Also this isn't a discussion of if I should get the PS4 or Xbox One lol I know which one is better and which one I would enjoy more personally, but I was hoping for some feedback from those who own one. Thanks for any input!

I just recently(a couple weeks ago)upgraded from PS3 to PS4. Its well, well worth it(even just for the graphics upgrade!). The only game a I got was The Show. From playing it on PS3 one day and PS4 the next, you definitely notice the changes.

I traded in my PS3, controller and like 6 or 8 games(nothing new)and got about $100 credit. Got a used PS4 and only payed apx $300 out of pocket.

Dude nice! I guess I could go the route of selling old games and my ps3 since the only games I really play anyway are re-mastered for ps4 as well (Last of Us). The only games I've really been playing is that game and The Show anyway. I was also thinking about waiting to see if I get any cash and giftcards during the Christmas season to use towards upgrading (which I'm sure I will).

Yeah...if ya can afford it, it's worth it.

I'm one that always waits a while. Upgrading after apx a year of the new one coming out (maybe it's been 2?) Is rare for me. I usually wait until they stop making games for whatever system I have.

But I decided I didn't wanna wait and I'm glad I didn't. Definitely worth it.

I'm in the same mind set. I'm debating as well and keep looking for deals and trade in deals too. I waited to get a ps3 cause games were still coming out and good for ps2. However, it does seem to be a bigger difference in games from ps3 and ps4. It took Madden a few years on ps3 to get good so that's why I've been holding out too. Though, I didn't buy Madden for ps3 either.

With Christmas coming and ps4 new version supposedly coming at the end of October, there should be a price drop too.

I sold 5 old video game systems, about 80 games, a bunch of controllers/hard drives/cords, and had about 40 bucks left to pay for a PS4 (which seems kind of ridiculous, but I digress), and I got it exclusively just so I could play MLB The Show and I am very happy with the decision. And I was at the same point you are, kind of. Except I've been graduated from college for five years and still don't have a job, so I needed to sell all those things to be able to upgrade my system. Haha.

I think it would be well worth it, especially if you sell older games/systems that dont get much use anymore, even if it doesnt pay for the entire thing. Plus you need to do something to reward yourself for your hard work! Also its not just a gaming system either since its also a blu ray player, netflix, etc so if your gf isnt much for games, you both can still enjoy using it. Plus if youre a baseball fan, you gotta have The Show. Im not one for buying yearly games or at full price but this one is always the exception.

After owning a 360 for years, and then going baseball game-less and then console-less, I figured I'd pick up a PS4 and try out the show. Glad I made the move!

If you have the money, I'd say do it without hesitation! I upgraded to the PS4 a few months ago and the graphics are worth the price of admission alone. I also got a 4k TV last month and that's another game changer... the lag I experienced on my old TV went away and I had to re-learn hitting due to the difference in timing.

I waited over a year before taking the plunge but when I did I loved it. My prior platform was a PS3.

One word of advice, keep your PS3 and your favorite PS3 games, the amount of trade in credit you get isn't worth it unless you really need the money. I still play stuff on my PS3. The quality of the games at the end of a consoles life are typically quite good.

While the PS4 graphics and load times are better the marginal difference is the smallest between any PS and (PS - 1) generation platform upgrade so far IMHO.

I agree with the guy that posted under your OP. It was well worth it. Originally I got a PS4 last september just to play MLB The Show, WWE2K15 and DCUO and I wasn't disappointed in the console at all. Since then I've gotten GTA V, MLB 15 and 14 the Show, WWE2K15, DCUO, Dragon Ball Xenovderse, Resident Evil Remake and The last of us remastered. I love my PS4. Not saying there's anything wrong with X1 cause there isn't. i want to get an x1 as well but that'll have to be on the backburner right now. Also congrats on your career and schooling!

I do agree with this, PSN Hack of 2011 aside. (that was fun wasn't it? LOL) if it wasn't for that i wouldn't have probably put as much time as i did into Heavy Rain and Infamous LOL

I need similar advice. Im currently playing MLB 2013 on a PS3. I am wanting to buy a PS4, which will mainly be used for playing the show. Just a couple of questions if you will:

                          - is the newer version of the game as straightforward as 2013 (ex. "x" button only for timing hitting?

                          - is "x" button only for classic pitching?

                          - I have a tough time with sliders. How does this play "out of the box"?

                          - I play on AllStar. Is AllStar level in 2015 the same difficulty as in 2013?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

Im pretty sure the controls are basically the same other than the PS4 has the touch pad that is used to bring up pitcher/batter info, which I think was the Select button. I think everything else is the same, the controller itself isnt really all that different.

Cant remember about X for classic pitching, havent used that in a while.

Personally it plays really well out of the box. Ive made a few tweaks here and there but I think the general consensus is that it plays well, just that some animations tend to get in the way of things in my experience.

I pretty much only play on All Star as well and have since like 2011, so theres that.

Im sure others can give you more detailed answers but its baseball and I love it, really the only game thats been in my PS4 for a long time.

Thanks for the feedback - much appreciated. I see some of the slider sets posted by more experienced players and not sure which one to use. I realize sliders are also based on user ability and preferences. I use timing hitting, classic pitching and auto defense so looking for sliders that are best suited for my style of play. I let the catcher call the game. Glad to hear it is pretty good out of the box. Just want realistic results as I really love playing the game as well. Thanks again
