1. whats the best amount of games to play in a season for someone who will play a game or two every day or so. 162 and sim a lot? 80 or so and play them all? this is really my biggest hesitation to start and im sure id love franchise if i just did it already.

Thinking of starting franchise, questions
Long time show player, but never started and played a franchise. just seemed like a big time commitment. But now with my Angels season coming to an end soon, whether it be at the end of the regular season or after winning the world series, ill need a new way to keep playing as them. so a question

162 & sim.
It seems sacrilegious to only schedule 80 games IMOT-BONE.

In franchise, you only have the option to play the full 162 game season. It's not like season.
If your looking for ideas for which games to sim or play, I know some people do weekend games, or just one game a series. I always liked the idea that you pick a pitcher (or pitchers) and play all of their starts while simming the rest.Comment

Re: Thinking of starting franchise, questions
You can do what I do. I will go to the next pitcher in the rotation every time through. So for instance, if you number the rotation 1-5, I'll play the season opener with #1...then sim the next five games and play the second start of pitcher #2. Sim the next five games, play the third start for pitcher #3. Sim the next five games, play the fourth start for pitcher #4. Sim the next five games, play the fifth start for pitcher #5. Then start it over, sim next five games, play the sixth start for pitcher #1, etc. So you play every sixth game. That leads to playing about 25-30 games a season, you get a feel for all the pitchers and players on your team, and can run through it at a decent pace.Comment

Re: Thinking of starting franchise, questions
I play the 1st game of every series, sometimes I'll wait until later in the series if there's a marquee matchup or something. Then I play every game in the playoffs. I used to do the method described above, too. It works really well because you get exposure to each one of your starting pitchers.Comment

Re: Thinking of starting franchise, questions
I also don't like playing too many games during the season, because there are always statistics that humans don't get as many of. For example, I am terrible at stealing bases, and I don't hit any home runs, really. If I were to play too many games during the season, Miguel Cabrera would finish with about 10 home runs. So I like simming more often than not to get an accurate representation of statistics.Comment

Re: Thinking of starting franchise, questions
I'll input my opinion as someone who isnt a huge baseball fan ... havent been since the 90's. I started playing The Show because I hadnt played a baseball game since Front Page Sports baseball '96.
This game is so good, one of the best sports games Ive ever played. Make no mistake, Im not new to sports games, I commonly play soccer or hockey, so im not easily impressed by the new technology, its just a good game.
With that being said, as someone who has only watched say 14/15 games this season, I started a franchise in mlb 14, and continued it in 15. Im having a lot of fun. Seriously. I dont play too often, but am about 60 games in to my franchise's first season.
If you say you will play a game or two every day or so, I see absolutely no better way to enjoy the game than to play a franchise. At roughly 2 games/day you could potentially finish 2 seasons in franchise mode before the next season begins. Then compare your progress and gm moves with your real team lagging behind a season , or part of a season.
I usually have a few seasons going in fifa/nhl/pro evo ... one, i pick an underdog team i like and try to build, another, i play games roughly along with the real season to see how i match up.TB Lightning | Liverpool | Panathinaikos | Toronto FC
