Re: MLB The Show 16 Trailer, Josh Donaldson is the Cover Athlete - Ships 3.29.16
I don't mind people criticizing the game at all. In my opinion, it's more annoying to see people get offended by others criticizing a game. I kind of like the nitpicky weirdos, and I say that with love, who become scarcer and scarcer in this more civil, modern Internet. These guys remind me of the epic flame wars I saw on Usenet back in the day.
But I think the reason I'm not so hard on the game is that I'm a pessimist by nature, and I think baseball video games are the least popular of the major sports games. So I don't expect much innovation and keep buying it in the hopes that they keep making it. It's already perfect to me, a daily ritual that keeps me sane. I honestly just want the game to be refined further, not remolded.
We've seen MLB 2K drop dead. The Show won't even be on Vita anymore (maybe that has more to do with Vita than baseball). The only baseball game on Xbox One is that RBI Baseball remake, which is not a valid option for hardcore players.
With NBA 2K and Madden, I get the criticism they get because they are like the AAA behemoths and they can take it. But I don't want to convince outsiders and casuals that The Show is a bad game based on our nitpicks. I want them to keep buying it so that the series keeps going.Last edited by Spokker; 12-08-2015, 09:35 PM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 16 Trailer, Josh Donaldson is the Cover Athlete - Ships 3.29.16
Before everyone gets upset, I love baseball and the show, and recently bought a ps4 essentially for this series. As such, I have a high expectation of what this game could, and frankly should, be. If they didn't want undue criticism, they shouldn't have released a video this early.
Something I hope will change is the slight choppiness that to me looks like ps3 era games. Rounding the bases, some swings, fielding, and several deliveries have this look to them that's kind of hard to describe. It's like there isn't a bridge from one animation to the next, and the animations don't look natural, kind of cut and pasted and not smoothed over at all. Nba 2k implemented dynamic shots or whatever, where the shot varied depending on the position and arrangement of the player. That was awesome and did a lot to make the game look great. 2k has the best gameplay plus the best graphics out there.
The engine and animations look pretty much the exact same as it has been for years, and they look very dated. I had hoped that a push to ps4 only would make this better, but judging by that video, it has made it worse, as developers can pour time into cloth textures instead of fluid gameplay. Sandoval has the exact same swing animation that he has had for years now, with no update or smoothing whatsoever. Several times the player jumps right into an animation with no transition. And a lot of what should be fluid motions look like what I can only describe as a polygon with the edges kind of smoothed off. I've seen that double play animation for 4 years now, it looks no better. That baserunning looks terrible. The dive in slow motion clearly shows chops and inconsistencies.
This is a pre beta build, I get that. But I highly doubt the gameplay will see that much improvement. And if it does, then great. But honestly, this video did basically nothing except instill fear that we're getting a pretty ps3 game.

Re: MLB The Show 16 Trailer, Josh Donaldson is the Cover Athlete - Ships 3.29.16
With this year's 2K NBA making major strides I have to say it is the most realistic sports game out there. The Show, which I love a lot more, just isn't up to par with what 2K have done. But there is time to get things accomplished and come out with a nice version this year I think.
But yeah the fear remains that this team is too small or whatever to handle all that needs to be done for MLB. It's the little things.... and MLB is falling way behind on those little things every year. Not Madden tier yet....
And oh yeah guys Vita is dead. There is no reason whatsoever to waste precious resources when you can stream the PS4 version on it. None whatsoever. So much needs to be done for PS4 that at this point they need to kill the PS3 version as well. This engine needs major work.Comment

This will be a first day purchase for me if the commentary receives a major overhaul, it's beyond atrocious. Every single game they say the same thing and the best is when Matt V says "sorry to interrupt" to his own line when the inning ends! lolComment

Re: MLB The Show 16 Trailer, Josh Donaldson is the Cover Athlete - Ships 3.29.16
Excited to see what's new for '16 in the coming months, still having a blast playing '15.
I saw someone mention retractable roofs - if those really are in, it just goes to show that some improvements take years to fully implement and that just because we don't hear about those improvements for a bit doesn't mean they aren't being worked on. Remember that this Dev team never does anything half baked, and if a feature isn't ready for release it isn't included. As far as player models go (since that seems like a hot topic at the moment), I think one improvement from last year that is severely underrated is the body fitting accessories because clipping is such an immersion breaker. I think I am at the point with the graphics that I would rather see small improvements that make the game feel less "video-gamey", addressing things like clipping, wonky animations, etc. with the big one for me being the CAP generator that basically spits out caricatures. The amount of time I've spent editing drafted players to even minimally resemble humans is rediculous lolBakin' soda, I got bakin' sodaComment

Re: MLB The Show 16 Trailer, Josh Donaldson is the Cover Athlete - Ships 3.29.16
And I have to believe that is true. Does anyone honestly think that the reason they decide to allocate resources and time to updating things is just because a few dozen people on Operation Sports and other message boards state things like "if the roof can't be closed in Toronto, Seattle, and Houston, I'm not buying the game" or "if the stripe on the Twins pants isn't correct, I'm not buying the game" ? As if they otherwise would have little desire to work on things like that?
How far we've come from "Baseball" on Atari 2600, "RBI Baseball" on NES, "World Series Baseball" on SNES and Genesis, and even the original MLB series on PS1. Yet there are always some folks who will never be satisfied, and believe their own personal preferences are THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN LIFE". To each their own.
I'm just really, really glad that the only baseball game we get is a really, really good one.Last edited by HypoLuxa13; 12-09-2015, 10:09 AM.Comment

Im sorry, for me personally, a missing stripe, or a shoelace tied the wrong way isnt going to stop me from buying a game. That is just to nitpicky in my opinion. Half the time, I am so immursed in the game I couldnt even tell you what uniform I played my last game in let alone tell you if I noticed it was missing a stripe.Really wish sports games played to ratings!
Only thing SIM about sports games now, are the team name and players
CFB 25 The absolute GOAT!!!
MLB 23 FOREVER 20 is better, 23 just for Guardians
Madden get rid of the extras (SS/XF, HFA, media, scenarios, game plan) or turn them down considerably.Comment

I'm excited for the game. Every year has an improvement and advancement in the game.
As we progress further into the ps4 and they move away from trying to keep feature parity with the ps4 I'm assuming a bigger inprovement.

Re: MLB The Show 16 Trailer, Josh Donaldson is the Cover Athlete - Ships 3.29.16
As for wishlists, I've had a small set of wishes since maybe MLB '09, and only one of them had been tackled but not fully addressed. I'm not saying my wishes are top priority, I'm not saying my wishes are easy to make happen, and I'm not saying my wishes aren't from broken facets of the game (only really one of them could be considered one compared to that of the actual game of baseball). These wishes will be brought up by me at least once every year in some thread, whether it's a wishlist thread or from a new video that comes out, or something to ask the OS community guys, etc.
I don't gripe about this game ever when actually playing it. Try and find a post when I do (unless it's reporting a bug or damning my own team in my franchise). My impressions are always solid and praising, and for good reason. This is a quality product through and through. Okay, there are some things on the Vita version I wish they considered doing, but that's now obsolete. Anyway, looking into the next year is when I make those wishes. I've been in possession of every release so far since '09, and I don't intend to stop that flow of purchases that SCEA deserves.
I certainly hope the annual re-reminder of things I'd like to see aren't considered to be complaints, whining, or whatever it is. Granted, some can't really be done anymore, like my Vita cross-controller functionality idea. Others though just strike me curious as to their response toward what it is they are looking to do, not to do, what things are impossible to make happen, etc. I think the most difficult part for me is just not knowing when, why, or how some things can be achieved. I don't want to wish things that can't happen, for instance. I only provide myself with false hope every year that they'll happen only to find out that they don't.
Anyway, the one thing I don't think should be happening though is people saying: "Just be happy that you're no longer playing the games with sprites and dots." I think it's cute when it comes up, but that's not a legitimate excuse for evolution to not continually take place. I get there are limited resources all around, and there always needs to be incentive to buy the next game, but I don't think that doesn't mean we can't still voice our opinions.
Then again, this team deserves praise time to time. If I'm a developer for this game or any software, it wouldn't feel good if we were bashed for a quality product, even if the customer acknowledges that quality. The constant late hours they put into this project, away from their families, and probably doing this so much that even they don't like the game anymore (like me when I'm writing a paper or composing some music, etc.) means that every so often, the only motivation to continue working hard is the behaviorist model of complimenting them with a "good job" time to time. What better way to do it than on a site where there are developers who actually take the time to read, ask, and invites members on what to offer?
So, every so often somebody creates one of these threads. How often? Not enough, but they should be recognized.

I've never seen another forum or sub-forum go out of their way to commend a video game programming team like this. It's well deserved.
And in my searches I ran across a post of my own that was a mixed bag of defending a complainer (who was thereafter banned), offering constructive criticism, and providing props to Sony San Diego. Constructive criticism doesn't have to be long, I'm just bad at shortening things is all haha.Last edited by Blzer; 12-09-2015, 12:00 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: MLB The Show 16 Trailer, Josh Donaldson is the Cover Athlete - Ships 3.29.16
Ill most likely pre-order as per normal but my excitement level for this game dips yearly, sadly.
Don't get me wrong, it will still be a superb game with many, many more pro's than con's but it simply cannot shake off this stale feeling, as far as im concerned.
I dont expect a different looking game every year, it would be stupid to do so, it's the same developer after all, but when so many things go largely untouched for year after year such as commentary, franchise, even the same signature music for like, ever, then you start to compare it to the strides made in other areas of sports gaming such as NBA 2K, FIFA, Madden etc then yes, then it starts to make you wonder why you keep coming back and why '15 feels like '14 feels like '13 feels like '12 etc.
I repeat, it will be a great game, but times change and its simply my opinion that SCEA doesnt move fast enough with them.Last edited by PsychoBulk; 12-09-2015, 12:10 PM.Comment
