Re: Generated counts
I originally thought there was a relationship between batter ability, pitcher ability, and the generated count. But I think someone confirmed last year that the count was just random, regardless of the pitcher/batter matchup. Though I do think the 1-1, 2-1, 1-2 counts are more likely than 0-2, 3-0, and 3-2 counts...? -
Re: Generated counts
Right, that's exactly my thought! It's one thing I never liked about baseball games. Eye and discipline ratings don't really seem to matter if you are physically controlling that hitter. I thought they may have finally found a way to incorporate artificial intelligence of players ability work parallel with human interaction. I have a very good idea to make it work, I just never understood why something was never implemented. Figured maybe this was it.Comment

Re: Generated counts
Another reason I ask this, is because I play with the Reds, it seems like Billy Hamilton and Jay Bruce start out with a lot of 2 strike counts. Thought maybe there was a correlation thereComment

Re: Generated counts
The discipline rating in this game allows you to check swings easier and not just blow through chasing as much.
Joey Votto's Im sure is high where as Todd Fraizier If I remember correctly wasnt
Player vision in this game allows you to cover more of the plate and foul off tough pitches.
But ya it would be a nice touch if they had an algorithm that could calculate the quality of hitter vs quality of pitcher for the counts, and they may have one after all that just doesnt get it done correctly yet.Comment

Re: Generated counts
I think it would be cool, if the ai would occasionally override a swing attempt if it's out of the zone, and you chase , for players with good eye and discipline. Or even have the hitter ai pick up location for you occasionally (depending on hitter ability ratings ) showing exactly where the ball is going to break to , before it crosses the plate . Don't get me wrong, I'm Not looking for a handicap to make the game easier, I just would love for a guy like votto to rake in walks, even when I'm controlling him. Bc the truth is, I don't personally have his eye or patience, esp not in a video game lol.Comment

Re: Generated counts
I thought the devs said it was related to the player ratings. For example a pitcher with low BB/9 might have less 3 ball counts generated. Might be wrong, but I feel like Ramone or someone mentioned it was not random. I would just like the addition of an option to play with 0-0 and 0-1 counts generated as well. Maybe have a normal, fast and super fast option where only deep counts are generated for super fast. It's just weird never being able to hit the first pitch of an at bat, it happens in baseball really often.Comment

Re: Generated counts
Generated pitch counts needs to be revamped and expanded. To be honest, there should also be occasional 0-0 conts as well. Far too many 1-1, 2-1, and 0-2 counts in my opinion. Also there shouldbe a way to have it situationally turned off in certain situations lie, runner in scoring position, pitcher up in sacrifice situation, etc. i wont even get into how the generated count doesnt accurately represent pitch counts...Yankees, Manchester United, Chicago Bears, New York RangersComment

Re: Generated counts
I thought pitchers got 0-0 counts last year. The pitch count thing is an issue and Ramone talked about it at length, how the generated counts resulted in really inflated pitch counts so they deduct a pitch from the count at the end of each at bat I think. It's still way off even when deducting a pitch every at bat I feel, but they know about it and hopefully made some tweaks to it this year.Comment

It eould at the very least take away from the need to subtract pitches and it might give a better feel of when a pitcher is wild, in control, etc. its a bit tough to gage if EVERY AB starts off with at least 2 or 3 pitches regardless of pitcher.Yankees, Manchester United, Chicago Bears, New York RangersComment
