Re: What is your History with MLB The Show?

I'm from the UK and was waiting for a cricket game to come out that this Australian dev team was making (there's never been a good cricket game) The head of the studio would do Q&A's on their forum and said they were heavily influenced by MLB The Show so I bought The Show '13 to tide me over until the game came out. Not only did I very quickly become a fan of the game, baseball is now by far my favourite sport (I'd barely watched any before playing The Show) and has given me thousands of hours of entertainment (and horrible, horrible pain, I'm an A's fan) all because of MLB The Show.

I never did buy that cricket game.

It took me all of a day to realize that it was horrible, especially compared to what I was used to with MVP 2005. The next year I had essentially gone two years without playing a baseball video game regularly. I had read a lot about MLB The Show and decided to finally give it a go. I went out and bought a PlayStation 3 and MLB The Show '08. Having never even played the game I was hoping that my investment of over $400 just to play a baseball video game would pay off.

Let's just say it was a good decision.

FYI, I still have all the original saves from all these games. Nearly 20 year old saves.

When I got my PS1 in 1998, we bought 3D Baseball by Crystal Dynamics. Then Triple Play 98 and Triple Play 2000. Around the same time with Triple Play 2000, we got MLB 2000. I don't know how or why I played four different MLB games during this time, but I did.

Then I started upgrading my games pretty regularly. Primarily because I was wanting a set of rosters with Albert Pujols. So we got TP Baseball for PC, TP 2001 for PS1, and MLB 2002. None of which had Albert, but I still played these games pretty much evenly.

Finally, MLB 2003 came out, had Albert Pujols, and that became my go to game for a while. I still played TP 2001 regularly though. I got MLB 2004 around fifth grade and that was my last one on PS1.

For PS2, I mostly played MVP 2004 and 2005, but still bought, played, and loved MLB 2005 because it had grass stains and ticket prices and transportation. ASB 2004 also got a lot of love with my San Antonio Outlaws. When Sony rebooted MLB as The Show with 06, I thought it was a completely new thing. The commercials are what got me to try it. The guy from Osaka and that pro bowler who would pitch the ball down the lane.

After we got it, I realized that not too much was different from MLB 2005, so I kept playing it. The biggest difference was that I could now play in Memphis and work my way up instead of sitting on the inactive roster. During this time, I also rented games from 2K and High Heat regularly and thought they were also good.

I never considered getting an Xbox, but I did have to make the choice between 08 The Show or 2K8. I rented 2K7 for PS3 and liked it, but I was more familiar with The Show. Plus, it had custom music, so I chose it and the rest is history.

Re: What is your History with MLB The Show?

My love of video game baseball started with Earl Weaver Baseball in about 1987-88. A buddy and I played literally tens of thousands of games. We would basically "manage only", and we even set up full seasons (the game didn't have a calendar mode per se). I remember when my friend got a new computer and it could run simulated games in a few seconds...we really churned out the seasons.

Following high school I moved on to the High Heat Series...and I got into modding. The end of the High Heat series lead me to MVP 2004/2005 and even further modding.

My first exposure to The Show was the '07 version. I had grown a bit tired of modding and the end of the MVP series left me looking for the next baseball game. I ended up purchasing a PS3 specifically for MLB The Show '07...haven't looked back.

Thats crazy you were able to hold onto all those saves like that! In my house, Playstation memory cards had a habit of magically disappearing, I just know it was my brother taking the cards to friend's houses, but even to this day theres no way he would admit it. haha

I actually still have a near 20 year old save myself though. I got my first Ocarina of Time N64 game save still on cartridge! I'm surprised the little watch battery that backs up the save chip hasn't kicked the bucket yet. lol

              This again.

On the PC I played High Heat until MVP came out and then MVP on the PC.

MLB was a system seller for me as I was an Xbox owner.

Way back in the day I played baseball sims on an Apple IIe (Apple IIc?) with historic rosters.

Been playing OOTP for over 10 years now in addition to The Show.

Long story short: I grew up loving baseball and SNK Baseball Stars on the NES. I stopped following the sport for nearly two decades until this series brought me back, now I cannot get enough. At Bat and The Show are seasonal rituals, I own enough baseball books to start a small library, and have been to seven MLB ballparks over the last two seasons.

It's been quite the renaissance, all thanks to MLB The Show.

Re: What is your History with MLB The Show?

I don't the same amount of years others on here might have. My first baseball video game was MLB 05 on the PS2....

I first had MLB 06 and 06 The Show on PS2, then went to MLB 2k7, MLB 2k8, switched back to MLB 09 The Show on PS2, got an xbox 360 for christmas with MLB 2k9, got MLB 2k10, then started looking at pictures and videos of MLB The Show on PS3 and my life was changed. I hated 2K, the grapics were terrible, the bugs were quite significant. Saved up some money, sold my old PS2/PSP games to Gamestop and bought myself a PS3 and MLB 10 The Show and haven't looked back since. Every year has been a day 1 purchase and my favorite game to play year round. Haven't turned on my Xbox since (except for Forza 4 for a quick minute). I got a PS4 the christmas it came out. And plan on getting every year's version until I simply cannot play anymore.

Re: What is your History with MLB The Show?

I'm pushing 40..So I've been around the bases a couple of times...but it all started with Super Action Baseball on Colecovision in 1983...In the days where they were not allowed to use real team names and players...Then it was the Bases Loaded series on Nintendo..Even "Baseball Stars" on Neo-Geo...Even those games did not have real players/teams..but it was all about baseball...Then RBI Baseball arrived and was the first game I can remember playing that had real names, but were not allowed to use the team names (Red Sox, Pirates, etc) - I played the heck out of that game...Recreating the 86 world series..and actually winning as the Sox...I continued with Bases Loaded and RBI Baseball until Ken Griffey Jr's MLB game out and Roger Clemens MVP Baseball and Super Tecmo Baseball on the SNES...Eventually getting a PS2 I moved onto the MVP series starting with MVP 2004/2005 and then All Star Baseball..There were a couple of no-name baseball games mixed in..ESPN baseball, High Heat, MLB 06 - Then I started the show in 06...I still have my free Red Sox hat

Damn, I've played a lot of innings since then...

Re: What is your History with MLB The Show?

The first baseball game I played was on Atari, don't remember what it was. Then I played Baseball on the NES and then RBI Baseball 3, which had historical teams, and that was so great.

Then came Baseball Stars. And that's when I started modding. Those 6 custom teams were pretty much always used the same way: Expos, Braves, Mets, Phillies, Cards & either the Jays or the Cubs. It's the first game I modded, not counting making levels in Excitebike and Wrecking Crew. Also, Baseball Simulator 1.000 with it's initial + 4 letters names and EXCRUCIATING sim times. I don't think it simulated anything, it just played itself at regular speed without you seeing it.

The next two games I'd play are the reason why I'm here: Triple Play Gold and Ken Griffey Presents MLB. I kept both up to date for a long time. I had so much fun with those. I eventually bought both used and still have my copies with my rosters still in them.

I'll give a shout-out to the later entries in the World Series Baseball series on Genesis for one thing: the fantasy draft. Still my way to play the game to this day.

I played TPG/KGMLB and kept them updated throughout the PS1/N64 era. I definitively bought a few MLBs then but nothing really grabbed my attention that much.

Then came PS2 and MLB 2006. I was hooked. All Star Baseball 2003, I loved because it had expansion mode. I bought 2006, 06: The Show and each and every edition of The Show since then, including buying it twice this year, once on PS3 and once on PS4.

Greatest sports game ever. I would never not give my money to a production team that respects the fans and the modders like they do and just don't sit on their *** and give minimum effort like EA Sports does. My dream mod project is NHL 1989. It will probably never happen.

My first baseball game was Triple Play 2000 on the n64. MVP baseball 2004 was my next obsession but sadly the series died quickly. Didn't play another baseball game until MLB 2k11 on my 360 and I thought that one was pretty awesome. In that time I'd been playing travel hockey and had every NHL from 2001-today except for 2007, since that was obviously my favorite sport and it was really the only sports game that kept up with the realism of the actual real life thing. 2 years ago one of my fraternity brothers picked up a PS4 and The Show 14 and my god, it was damn near realistic. So I hunted around on ebay, got a PS4 for $250 and a copy of The Show for myself. I have to say, I haven't been as stoked about a sports game in idk how long. Man if only EA gave the same amount of effort, or even gave a **** for that matter, about the NHL and NCAAF (whenever it comes back) series.

I've been playing baseball video games since it was just called 'Baseball' on Atari. Since then I've played a majority of them plus most of The Show releases.
