So I made a 3-for-3 trade between my Seattle franchise and Toronto. All 6 players were in the minors, and only one of my players was on my 40-man roster, and I'm not 100% sure how many I got back were on Toronto's. After the trade was executed, all three new players were added to my 40-man roster, which put me over the 40 limit. Why was this the case? Is it because they were possibly on Toronto's? I think I should have been asked if I wanted any of them added to my 40-man roster before they were automatically added.

They were probably on Torontos 40. Its realistic, as in real life traded players will stay on the 40 man if they where on it before, and the receiving team would have to make roster moves to clear space. -

Thanks for the reply. I lost Blake Beavan to the Reds on a waiver claim to clear a spot on my 40-man. Not a major loss, but still something I wasn't expecting. I'll check out the other team's 40-man roster before making trades now, or leave a couple spots open on mine all season.Comment

Re: Franchise Trading/40-man Roster Question.
This is one of the many reasons why I value non-40 man prospects well above 40 man prospects (since my team is good right now, I care more about the long game)
I've made trades to clear players off the 40 just to prevent situations like this, and I rarely have 40 men on my 40 man.
Short Answer: They were on the Jays 40 man.Comment
