PCI: Place or Track
Just wondering what you guys do with the PCI and what you've had success with. I have always placed the PCI in a certain spot of the strike zone where I anticipated the pitch to be and left it there. However, I've heard some guys move the PCI as the pitch is coming in. So I'm just looking for opinions on which method is better, thanks.Tags: None -

Re: PCI: Place or Track
It depends who I am playing. Vs the CPU I typically just track the ball. When playing online patterns show themselves pretty early in games and there are a lot of tactics that many people use online that are universal. I think when playing against a human you should be guessing along with them on location as it will give you an advantage. Like Stolm mentioned on some pitches (up and in fastballs) that you need to be early on guessing location is sometimes the only way you are going to get to it, especially on the higher difficulties/pitch speeds.
The thing is the PCI moves so quickly that you can reach pitches well way from where you place your PCI. So even if you are placing the PCI before the pitch, you can track the pitch as well. At least to a point where you can foul it off. Inside fastballs are a bit different, but you can still get the PCI all the way from the outside edge to the inside edge to at least foul it off.Comment

I like to keep it in one spot and wait for a pitch there. However I just recently starting using Zone and haven't played around with it online yet.Comment

Re: PCI: Place or Track
And I find the more I focus on the ball as it's released, and lock my eye on it, my thumb automatically moves the PCI into the correct spot.
I found early on, I would kinda half look at the ball, and half stare at the PCI, and that got me into alot of trouble. As soon as I kinda eagle eyed the ball and tracked it t the plate, my results improved a bunch.Comment

I place and 99% of the time I just leave it in the middle and wait for a bad pitch.
It's definitely not easy, but I think the results are pretty realistic.

Also going to try directional. I used to be a timing hitter but swore off of it back in 12 when my players kept swinging outside the zone on pitches right down the middle.Comment

This makes me think that I should turn the PCI off. I'm always resistant to changes in my settings but when 16 drops I'm going to play around a lot with them before settling back into my franchise.

Even if you are looking past the PCI and locking onto the ball, your eye will still pick it up in the foreground.Comment

Re: PCI: Place or Track
Yeah i switch from zone and classic a lot. I always track and never leave it still.
It hurts me a lot when the dang ball is down the middle but it is a lot more realistic. If you swing below ball, you'll get a pop up, if you swing above the spot, ground ball, etc.
Feels good when you place it right and connectComment

Re: PCI: Place or Track
I may be crazy but...
Didn't in one of the streams, the devs said that they were punishing people who place their PCI? They said they were penalizing people who "place" their PCI but increasing the rewards for people who "track" their PCI.
I wanted to get clarification on it but the chat was moving too fast for my question to get answered.
Because that's going to severely affect my batting. I already have enough trouble as it is batting without them punishing players like me who protects one part of the strike zone (after a couple innings, I look at my opponent's pitching data and camp my PCI where they are throwing most of their pitches).Comment

It means that user skill is the overriding factor on results this year. Good PCI placement on the ball will result in more solid contact, and less randomized results.
If you time up a ball dead center on the PCI, you should not pop it up this year.Comment
