FInally started my White Sox franchise. I played the first 5 games of spring training to get a feel of my starters, bullpen and bench.

I then ended spring and started my franchise season. Off to a 5-0 start but had some close games.

Final game against the A's was a rain soaked 15 inning affair. Tied 1-1 going into the 15th and Frazier hit a solo home run to take the lead and Robertson was brought in for the close.

My last game, home opener against the Indians, I got up big early and Danks pitched well. Was up 5-0 but he was tiring out. I was watching the actual gamecast of the Sox and Rangers game and Frazier hit a grand slam last night. I was pumped. Went back to my game and actually hit a grand slam with Frazier which was much needed as I brought in Zack Duke being up 9 to 1 and gave up 5 runs. I then scored another to make it 10-6. Duke's ERA is not good. Brought in Putnam to close out the game.

BREAKING CARDINALS NEWS

The St.Louis Cardinals have released C Eric Fryer and have recalled Carson Kelly from AAA Memphis. Eric Fryer who was called up when Bryan Pena was lost for the season, just hasn't gotten the job done either at the plate or behind the plate. Fryer was hitting just .063 on the year.

Carson Kelly comes up from Memphis only hitting .242 but his ability to call games has been great. Kelly was expected to catch in Memphis all season, but with the injury to Pena and the poor performance of Fryer, the Cardinals feel that he will better serve the Cardinals than Fryer.

Jesse Jenner was moved from Springfield to Memphis to replace Kelly.

I'm about a week past the ASB in my Cubs franchise, and I'm surprised that there have been very few trades, despite me moving the slider up a notch. I guess we'll see how it goes over the next week and a half before August.

My interesting note is that the entire AL Central is under .500, and has been for almost the whole year. The White Sox have the worst record in baseball, but even the division leading Indians are three games under. I can't say I've seen that before. All five other divisions have a run away leader.

Cards rally falls short, lose 3-2 to Nationals

The Cardinals had their chance in the Top of the 9th. After a one out walk by pinch hitter Reuben Tejada and a two out single by Alex Rios followed by a two run double by Matt Holliday, the Cards had a man on 2nd with 2 outs in the 9th only to watch Brandon Moss go down on strikes for the 3rd time in the game. Final score, 3-2 Nationals. The Cardinals had their opportunities throughout the night as they left 9 men on base, including Holliday in the 9th.

Adam Wainwright didn't have his best stuff but was serviceable as he allowed 3 runs on 5 hits. All 3 runs were scored on a Bryce Harper three run homerun in the 5th. Lyons and Socolovich pitched lights as neither allowed a hit over the final two innings.

Probably the best sign the Cardinals got was Alex Rios going 3 for 5 on the night with a run scored. Johnny Peralta went 2 for 3 with a double as the only other multi hit player in the game.

Next up the Cardinals will look to split the series as they put Michael Wacha on the mound to square off against Max Scherzer.

In other news

* Patience is starting to wear extremely thin with Brandon Moss and his lack of production out of the clean up spot. Moss is hitting .207 on the year with 7 homeruns and 19 RBI.

* Matt Carpenter's strike outs are becoming a concern for the club, as he has now struck out 44 times 165 at bats. While his homerun (9) and RBI production (22) seem to be on course with his 2015 numbers, his strikeout numbers are well on pace to the career high 151 that he accumulated last year.

* Adam Wainwright's WHIP of 1.30 is concerning as it is dangerously close to his 2007 number of 1.40 that was a career worse. Wainwright has struggled this season to find his 2014 form when he last won 20 games.

These Athletics are scrappy as it gets. We're 6-1 now after a heck of a game against the Mariners.

Henderson Alvarez had the door closed most of the game, but with the game tied 0-0 in the 5th, he got into trouble. Gutierrez led the inning off with a Triple (I should have caught it at the wall, but I jumped too early). The next batter hit it to 2nd and I went home thinking the runner went... he didnt. The next hitter hit it to Short, I threw it home to try to get him, but the runner beat it. 1-0 Mariners with runners on 1st and 2nd. Alvarez dug in and took care of business after that. The next man grounded into a DP, and he struck the next one out to end the inning with very little damage done.

Alvarez coasted through the 7th, game still at 1-0 Mariners. In the top of the 8th, with two outs, Jed Lowrie hustled to an infield hit... it was a race between him and King Felix to 1st, and Lowrie won. Felix got taken out for the next batter and the first pitch from Nick Vincent was sent back over the CF wall by Marcus Semien to take the lead 2-1.

The thing I love most about this team, though, is that if I have the lead in the 8th, the game is over. Sean Doolittle is lights out in the 8th, and Ryan Madson is king of the 9th... in my 6 wins so far this season, Madson has gotten the save in all 6 of them.

I like this team.

Me too. At least this season I am. In previous years, I always simmed a few seasons first to get to do the offseason activities and build up a better team first, but I started at day one this year.

Game 2 of the 3 game series with the Indians had Sale on the mound. I was dealing...and dealing and dealing. Offense wasn't doing much but did manufacture a run with a single then a bunt to move runner over. The Indians also committed 3 errors. Had a 2-0 lead until Abreu unloaded a home run to pad the lead. Added one more late to go up 5-0.

Now for the real story. Had a perfect game going into the 9th and 15 strikeouts. Lead off batter singles so that ends. THey then got a runner to second and then a single to score a run to end the shut out. Started up Robertson and Jones in the bullpen but was able to get 2 outs then struck out the last batter for the complete game.

Wasn't too nervous pitching the ninth like I was a few years ago when I did throw a perfect game with Sale(almost lost it on the last out because was shaky catching an easy pop up to my center fielder). They just got hat hit to the gap that ended it. Oh well.

Pitching dominates, Cards win 3-1

Pitching dominated the 3-1 win for the Cardds as Wacha went 6 2/3 innings allowing one run and striking out 9. Siegrist and Rosenthal pitched the rest allowing 1 hit and 0 runs. Michael Wacha got his league leading 8th win of the season.

Randal Grichuk went 3-4 with a homerun (10) and 2 RBI's. Matt Holliday continued his hot streak going 2-4. Brandon Moss again was a no show going 0-4 with a strikeout. Kolten Wong drove in the other RBI.

The Cardinals will now head to Milwaukee for a 3 game stint with the Brewers. Mike Leake will toe the rubber in game one.

I just started a 3 game series vs. the Cards. Game 1, I won with a walk-off single by Freeman.
SP Chacin lights out 8-IP 6-K BB 0-ER, no decision though. That went to Kimbrel, with a "K". CF Inciarte is a beast, 8 hits, 4 SB, 3 CS in 3 games. The caught stealing is on me I am running fool when he is on base.

Now it's early, but the team ERA is @ 1.33, with Teheran @1.29, Shelby @1.29 & Chacin @0.00. I was looking at putting him on the trade block. Because I am looking at SP LHP Buehrle in the FA market.

Cards hang on, beat Brewers 6-4

The Cardinals jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, only watch it evaporate in a 4 run 8th by the Brewers. Leake gave up 3 of the 4 runs and Jonathan Broxton was responsible for the other. Jordan Walden was called up on get the final two outs of the 8th which he did. Rosenthal came into the 9th and earned his 20 save of the season.

Matt Carpenter and Randal Grichuk each earned 3 hits in game. Carpenter also had a RBI. Matt Holliday earned a hit to keep his hitting steak togethre. Bradon Moss did go 1 for 3 on the day with a RBI and a walk.


Game two of the series is tomorrow with Jaime Garcia (0-6) going against Zach Davies (1-1) of the Brewers.

In June using 30 team control... the back end of the Yankees bullpen has currently put up these numbers

Dellin Betances: 1-1,1 SV, 28.2 IP, 50 K, 13 BB, 0.94 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 1.78 FIP, 0.93 WAR
Andrew Miller: 0-0, 9 SV, 23.2 IP, 31 K, 7 BB, 0.76 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 2.37 FIP, 0.61 WAR
Aroldis Chapman: 1-0, 8 SV, 10.0 IP, 16 K, 3 BB, 0.00 ERA, 0.60 WHIP, 0.70 FIP, 0.44 WAR

But, unfortunately the Yankees are in 4th place and are below .500

Approaching the trade deadline, I was highly dissatisfied with the play of Grandal and Turner (also Kendrick and Utley).

I had contemplated flipping Grandal for prospects given his age, his upward development/ratings curve, and his likely reasonable re-sign cost given his down 2016 season, and I contemplated acquiring either a 3B who would allow me to move Turner to 2B or a SS who would allow me to move Seager to 3B.

I held off till the last possible moment and decided to ride or die with my current roster.

Then, literally the first game after the trade deadline, both Grandal and Turner go down for 2-3 months with serious leg injuries!

I wound up calling Austin Barnes up, who had been tearing up AAA, and I put Kike at 3B, leaving a hole in the outfield that would be filled by Trayce Thompson, who was killing it in AA.

I intended to let those guys get a taste of The Show in September, maybe, or next year, but now my hand is forced and I have to figure out if they can contribute soon or if they need more time in the minors.

Thompson is 0-9, but Barnes is hitting .250 with 4 RBI. If he holds up, I'm going to pass on signing Grandal.

It's starting to seem like injuries are piling up late in the year, which I really like.
