Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

The Cardinals pushed their winning streak to 3 games with a 10-2 victory over the Marlins in Miami. Randal Grichuk had a day collecting his 100th hit and 15th homerun of the season on the same swing in the 5th, by launching a 3 run homerun into dead center field. Grichuk finished the day 3 for 5 with a HR, 2B and 5 RBI's.

Mike Leake was strong once again going 6 innings en route to collecting his 11th win of the season. The bullpen shut the door in the 7th, 8th and 9th, which was a welcomed sign after the pen has struggled to start the 2nd half of the season.

Next up the Cardinals welcome back Lance Lynn as they take on the Marlins in game 2 of the 4 game series.

Absolutely caved and started another franchise...

The San Diego Padres have announced the promotion of J.K. Stewart from director of scouting to general manager beginning in the 2017 season. After a tumultuous 2016 campaign the Padres parted ways with A.J. Preller, ending the "Prellerpalooza" era in San Diego. After several big name signings, big trades, and poor results including a MLB 2nd worst 65-97 record in '16 it's time for a change. Despite having two more years under contract the Padres are simply fed up as an organization and taking a different approach. Stewart's scouting department had a great 2016 MLB Draft, which is in spoilers below:

      Spoiler

Stewart's knack for evaluating talent is what the Padres covet and with the Chicago Cubs winning the 2016 World Series built from within. The Padres are trying to take on that approach and Stewart is the ideal candidate to construct a World Series contender for the organization.

*Franchise setup: I won't post much outside of season previews/recaps and monthly recaps. I'll try to include a few pics here and there and possibly some video. I will play 1 game/series and then play the playoffs in their entirety.

As you can see the Padres didn't have much of a lineup change from 2016. The free agent pool was thin and no big names were on the market. The Padres GM J.K. Stewart chose to keep the same team together despite a poor season. The Padres don't expect to compete this season but player development will be key for the future of the organization.

The Padres will be hoping that their older players perform well to increase trade value as the Padres will likely be a seller when July rolls around.

Speaking of the Brewers, Ryan Braun absolutely killed me in 3 of the 4 games in the series hitting .466 with 4 home runs, 8 RBI and 5 runs scored. Held him hitless in the final game.

In other news, the Phillies and Orioles matched up on a minor trade with the Phillies sending recently DFA'd Charlie Morton to the Orioles for left handed pitcher T.J. McFarland. The Phillies could use some additional pitching depth from the left side and Morton was expendable with all the depth on the farm.

Well, the bats went ice cold and the pitching hit a speed bump in the 3 game series with the Cubs as they swept the Phillies. The Phillies were outscored 24-6 and outhit 42-13. Ouch. After an off day the Phillies hit the road for 3 against the Nationals and 2 against the Blue Jays.

In injury news, catcher Carlos Ruiz has been activated from the 15-day DL and catcher J.P. Arencibia has been optioned to Triple-A.

In transaction news the Phillies have claimed outfielder Joey Butler off waivers from the Indians and placed him in Triple-A for depth. LHP Elvis Araujo has been optioned to Triple-A. He has a 3.67 ERA on the season but has been so inconsistent. Recently acquired T.J. McFarland has been recalled from Triple-A. He had a 1.80 ERA in 20 innings of work.

LOL, I've been bouncing around various teams so far this year. Looks like though I've settled with the Yankees and have been having a lot of fun. I kept A-Rod and C.C. until their contracts ran out and I believe this was why I had to let Aroldis Chapman walk. Made a few moves including trading for Gincarlo Stanton. The 1st season was a disaster as we went 63-99. We did a hell of a lot better the 2nd season as we won 98 games and surprisingly beat the Chicago Cubs in the World Series 4-1.

It was a perfect ending, because C.C. pitched a complete game allowing only 1 run to the clinch the World Series and giving him a perfect ending to a career. The Cubs are still cursed despite being the highest rated team in the MLB; they've lost to us and the Red Sox in the WS. I made another big move trading for Nolan Arenado as the Rockies were struggling and he was pissed about his contract. We had to give some young arms and solid players, but it was worth it. Also acquired Solarte as a utility man and Carlos Santana to play catcher. I'm currently up 2-0 in the ALDS over the Astros and Manshiro Tanaka pitched a 2 hit complete game shutout in Game 1.....

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

The Houston Astros just keep rolling after a slow May they have found that April fire and are 10-4 on the month. I am happy with the game I am getting now and can finally really enjoy the game I said this before but I am getting great statlines for instance: 6-3 Win I had 8 hits the Cardinals had 7 hits. I am very happy with that score line. I am on pace for a 100+ win season but I am sure with the games I have been getting my luck will even out and I believe the real Astros ceiling this year was a 100 win season.

We started out the Month in a 2 game series against the D-Backs which we split then lost 2 of 3 to the A's. We went up against the Rangers in Arlington in what could be a huge impact on both of our seasons and got the 4 game sweep cementing our spot in 1st likely until the All-Star break. We then won 2 of 3 in Tampa bay and swept the Cardinals in St. Louis. We now have a 6 game home stand against the Reds and Angels.

There is some pretty big trouble though in the infield. Luis Valbuena has had his bat be ice cold for the past month or so and has seen his average drop to .228. It looked like it was starting to get better in Texas but his bat has disappeared again. Not only this but Tyler White also has struggled greatly and has seen his average drop to .219 as well.

Preston Tucker was sent down even though he was hitting .306 with 10 home runs in 170 AB's. Great pace but 90% of that was in the first month of the season and his bat went from being one of the hottest and a middle of the order guy to being someone I couldnt depend on. He had a big hit here and there but for the most part wasnt dependable enough to keep on the MLB roster. So he was sent down and Matt Duffy was called up.

I needed another corner infielder as a backup and potential starter if he can get his bat going. I could be looking at making a big mistake though and that is rushing a propsect to the MLB level. With the struggles of White and Valbuena A.J. Reed and Alex Bregmans callups are looming closer and closer. It is only a matter of time at this point.

Both are doing very well in AAA albeit in limited time. I have bumped them both up to every day starters in AAA and I will give Valbuena and White until the end of the month to get their bats going. If there is no sign of improvement White will be sent down and Reed or Bregman up.

Correa's stats have finally begun to normalize and he is batting .368 with 15 home runs. Still high but it is slowly working its way down which I am extremely happy about. Altuve is representing his real life power surge (I upped his power ratings because real Altuve has proved this is more than just a little bit of early season magic) and is batting .339 with 10 home runs.

I am heavily considering moving Altuve to the 3 hole and having Correa bat cleanup like in real life so I can get Altuve more opportunities with runners.

Pitching has been interesting, to say the least. Tony Sipp is having a season very similar to Will Harris in real life. In 24.1 IP he has 30 K's with a 0.74 ERA and 0.49 WHIP unbelievable numbers.

We have too many quality starters and not enough starting spots. I have considered running a 6 man rotation but have not done so yet. I will likely look to sell Feldman at the deadline as he isnt getting the deserved reps but is having a very solid year. I could keep him in the pen but once again the pen is doing very well as well.

Francis Martes is ready for a callup as soon as one of my pitchers goes cold.

                  <table><td bgcolor=#004684>End of May - 2019</td></table>

Another month and 27 games down. We sit at 28-19. 2nd place in the division. 3.5 games behind the Twins. We have a half game lead over the Tigers for the 1st WC spot. We went 15-12 in May. Struggled the 2nd half of the month going 6-8 in the last 14 games. Still the 2nd best record in the AL. Yankees lead the East at 26-23 and the Rangers lead the West at 25-24. The Angels are in 4th place and just 2 games back of the Rangers.

The offense has been spectacular. I dont know if ive ever had a stretch like this last month. From the 1st to the 22nd (19 games) we averaged 6 runs per game. We had 14 games with 5+ runs. 10 games with 7+ runs and 6 games with 10+ runs including a sweep of Oakland where we scored 11, 12 and 11. Alex Gordon and Kendrys Morales were on fire basically all month. Gordon hit .394/.455/.657 with 6 HR and 21 RBI in 99 at bats. Over his last 15 games he is hitting .431/.472/.723 with 5 HR and 16 RBI in 65 at bats. Overall he is now hitting .341/.447/.604 with 10 HR and 33 RBI in 44 games. In 109 games last season he only hit 15 HR. Morales was just as good and maybe better. He hit .385/.432/.624 with 6 HR and 24 RBI in 109 at bats. Through the first 21 games of the month he hit .422/.478/.723 with 6 Hr and 23 RBI. He reached base in every game and had a hit in all but one of those games. He is now hitting .364/.423/.551 with 8 HR and 35 RBI. Both of them are 35 years old. Lorenzo Cain is hitting .298/.354/.431 with 12 SB. Jackson Yates is hitting .287/.347/.461 with 5 HR. Salvy is hitting .298/.361/.455 with 7 HR. Adam Lind is hitting .322/.390/.405. Only has 2 HR. And Raul Mondesi had his best month since April of 2018. He is hitting .277/.323/.445.

Pitching couldnt have been much worse than it was in April. But its still not all that great. 23rd in ERA at 3.97. Down from 4.71 in April. We gave up 3.63 runs per game in May. We have 4 guys we can count on right now. Kris Medlen has filled in really well for Ian Kennedy. 2-1 with a 3.03 ERA in 5 starts. 3-1 with a 2.59 ERA overall. Mike Minor is 6-0 with a 2.52 ERA in 64.1 IP. And Danny Duffy is 4-3 with a 3.32 ERA in 59.2 IP. Jordan Lyles has been much better this month. 2-2 with a 2.32 ERA. He had a game against the Chicago where he took a perfect game into the 7th and a no hitter into the 8th. Ended up going 8 inning with 1 hit and 2 walks. And had another game against Pittsburgh where he took a loss giving up 1 run on 2 hits in 7 innings. Ventura did improve after putting up a 8.50 ERA in April. He went 2-2 with a 4.21 ERA in May. Had 1 really bad start that throws his numbers off a bit. Gave up 8 runs in 3 innings to the A's. Without that game he had a 2.42 ERA in May. Bullpen while not as dominate as some years is still doing well. Combined 3.39 ERA. Herrera has been the best reliever so far 1.88 ERA with a 0.77 WHIP.

In AAA, there isnt a whole lot of good. Cheslor Cuthbert is hitting .295/.344/.398 with 2 HR. Jorge Bonifacio is hitting .275/.349/.405 with 4 HR. Luke Farrell is 2-4 with a 2.95 ERA in 61 IP.Brooks Pounders is 4-1 with a 3.17 ERA in 54 IP and Christian Binford is 3-2 with a 3.23 ERA in 64 IP. Kyle Zimmer struggling a bit (big surprise) 3.82 ERA in 61.1 IP.

Down in AA things a bitter better. Rolando Cardona is hitting .305/.395/.463 with 16 extra base hits. Marten Gasparini is hitting .287/.355/.400. And Alex Hatcher is hitting .296/.327/.359. Ashe Russell is still having a fantastic season. 3-1 with a 1.95 ERA in 64.2 IP. Dave Morcaldi is 0-1 with a 1.50 ERA in 24 IP. Nolan Watson has improved. 2-6 with a 3.83 ERA in 56.1 IP. And Foster Griffin has a 2.00 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP in 27 IP out of the pen.

Had to play a game so I could post the draft class. 2 games (that I played) after taking a no hitter into the 8th with Lyles i get my first of the year with Mike Minor against the Yankees.

It is definitely interesting. The White Sox are hanging by a thread in the race for the wildcard (8 games back at end of July) and the Rockies are completely out of the playoffs. I was surprised to see the ChiSox make this move, but if I'm the Rockies I'm grinning ear to ear.

What is cool is the Rockies lost Ben Paulsen for the year possibly career (Torn Achillies) so they just got their first baseman of the future and another piece to build around.

That's a very good question. I'll have to look after their next game to see who they have playing 1B now that Abreu is gone.

Stewart chose to keep the same team together despite a poor season. The Padres don't expect to compete this season but player development will be key for the future of the organization.

The Padres will be hoping that their older players perform well to increase trade value as the Padres will likely be a seller when July rolls around.

Awesome you are doing a Pads franchise. I will be following as well as the trades you make in the Trade Discussion Thread to give me some ideas for my own. [emoji106]

Currently 29-19 in my Blue Jays franchise and enjoying some amazing games. Right now, tied 1-1 in the series vs. the Yankees at the end of May. Lost game one 2-1, and won game two 3-0. The new sliders I have been using (Armour & Swords & Marino's) have been amazing and have really allowed me to enjoy this to the fullest. Also, I have finally got the hang of manual baserunning so this isn't an issue anymore for me.

I haven't made many moves. As mentioned a while back I signed Morse, Guerrero, and Frieri to minor league deals. Morse is on the 60-day DL, along with Saunders, Brown, Colabello (suspension) from the major league roster. Guerrero is starting in LF, and has hit 8 homers but is currently in a cold slump. Frieri started in AAA, but was called up due to injuries. He has allowed 1 run in 11 innings and has become a great piece for the Jays bullpen.

Finally, made a minor trade. Alex Dickerson was DFA'd by the Padres. The Jays were thin at 1B with Smoak struggling, Morse on the 60 day DL, Colabello suspended and Kotchman on the 60 day DL. They swapped RP Chad Jenkins for Dickerson. Jenkins will provide the Padres with bullpen depth, while Dickerson will report to AAA and get some at bats in. He may be the next in line for action if an injury arises or Smoak/Carrera/Lake struggle while the regulars are on the DL. His ability to play LF/RF is also a good thing for Toronto. The Blue Jays have been linked to big left handed power bats such as Carlos Gonzalez and Jay Bruce but any potential big move is likely a couple months away!

                                Stay Tuned!
