Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

An 18-7 July (we had a 10-game winning streak around the All-Star break) got my Braves on the outskirts of playoff contention entering August. We're 53-52, 8.5 behind the Nats in the East and 6 behind the Cards (with the D-Backs and Mets in front of us) in the WC.

Jason Grilli was our lone All-Star, but Freddie Freeman ended the month on a torrid stretch to enter the discussion for MVP. He's hitting .281 with 28 homers and 70 RBIs.

We started the expected firesale just before the All-Star break by trading Kelly Johnson to Arizona for minor-league pitcher Zack Godley. At the deadline, the Brewers had Eric Young Jr. on the block. He was so good for me on MLB 15, and he's still blazing fast, so I had to go after him. The Brewers wanted a 3B, so we sent them Hector Olivera.

With Young on board, Michael Bourn was expendable, so we shipped him off to Arizona for prospects.

      Ranger Update (Season 3)

Well it all comes down to one game. After 162 games Detroit and Texas are tied for the final Wild Card Spot. I had a chance in game 162 but I lost 2-1 to Seattle thus forcing a single game playoff with the Tigers. Its Felipe Paulino on the mound tonight as Cargo, Prince, and Delino try to lead the Ranger to a Wild Card game against Boston

I lost Darvish after year 2 to the yankees. I offered him 18 mil over 4 years but he decided New York was a better place to be. I thought that coming in to year 3 with Adrians retirement and the fact Yu left I would have trouble. My bullpen has been terrific and a rookie pitcher I signed last year has unexpectally done well.

Projected Starting Lineup as the offseason winds down:

          C - Molina
          1B - Holliday
          2B - Wong
          SS - Peralta
          3B - Carpenter
          LF - Grichuk
CF - Sierra (prospect who I am bringing up)
          RF - Piscotty

          Projected Starting Rotation

          Wainwright
          Wacha
          Brett Anderson
          Leake
          Martinez

The biggest thing we did was go out and improve our bullpen depth and depth overall for our farm system.

Very excited for the 2017 season. Feel as though we are balanced and deep this year.

Would you start your franchise over again with the up to date rosters? It is something i have thought about but i am torn because i had a good offseason with the redsox trading prospects for fernandez and suring up the bullpen. I drafted a lot of young pitching and got more through trading aging players. I remember you telling me to play them all out when i was 15 out and i kept playing then i was over 20 out and simmed aug and sep to play every game in 17 no matter what, but i know this is a novel bro and its up to me but would love to see your thoughts on this. Thanks!! Mpm9

                Rangers Update (Season 3)

Finally!!!! We made it in. Philipe Paulino gave us 5 plus strong innings and as a result we beat the Tigers 9-5 in the play in game to advance to the American league Wild Card Game against Boston. Tonight its Cole Hammels versus David Price. Price by the way won this years Cy Young award. In other news the 2 time defnding World Champion Dodgers continued their dominance as they won 102 games and finished with the majors best record. Kershaw won his second straight Cy Young. The Cubs won 101 games as they once again look to end the curse.

                Division Winners

AL East: Rays (3rd straight year in the playoffs)
West: Angels (Encarnacion wins AL MVP as Angels look to return to the World Series and avenge last years loss)
Central: Twins ( Really good young team as finally the Royals dominance ends)
                Wild Cards: Rangers and RedSox

NL East: Braves (Strasburg offseason signing pushed this young bunch over the top)
Central: Cubs ( Here we go again)
West: Dodgers ( The strong keep getting stronger. Eric Hosmer a FA signing steps in and keeps the train rolling)
                Wild Card: Pirates and Giants

Sorry I didn't know you were directly asking me.

I would continue to play through the franchise you have going personally. You have made roster moves to better your team and compete in 2017.

But if you're really unsure, why not start one with a new roster set, but keep the one you're currently playing? That way you could try and see if a new one will really keep your interest, or if you find yourself wanting to go back to your original.

David Wright is giving me a real dilemma at 3B. He's on a monster contract with years left on it, he's hitting under .220 as of mid May with only very occasional power yet he still has pretty decent trade appeal to other clubs, which will surely only diminish as he ages and if he continues his torrid form at the plate. On the other hand, I like him, he's a true Met and the face of the franchise. All things being equal I'd love to keep him.

What do you guys do in situations like this? All common sense points to me trading him, but my heart wants to keep him, but that will be at the cost of the franchise if he continues as he is. For the moment I'm keeping him at least up until the deadline and hoping his fortunes turn around, but when the deadline arrives I might have a tough decision on my hands.

I would do just as you're doing, keep him up through the deadline. See how he does before the All-Star break and see if things turn around.

If at the break he is still struggling, then I might start looking to see what I could get for him.

Played my first game of Spring Training last night with my 2017 Cardinals. Magnerrius Sierra put on a show going 4 for 5 with a double, grand slam, and 5 RBI! Hitting Carpenter in the 3 hole was a great idea as he knocked in 2 runs in his 4 innings of work.

The battle for the bench, bullpen, and #5 starter has started to heat up as I let Alex Reyes pitch 2 innings after Wainwright got his work in and Reyes fired through 6 hitters, striking out 5 of them.

Next game will not feature any regular starters as I try and determine who will be on the bench and how the bullpen is going to shape up. Also, biggest decision of the Spring is what to do with Matt Adams. He has been displaced at 1B due to Matt Holliday moving there. I don't like having him on the 25 man roster as a bench player because he only plays one position. So I'm thinking he's going to start in Memphis, but if he has a big Spring and none of the young guys step up then he might just find his way onto our bench.

                                Spring Training...gotta love it!
