Finally finished all 162 games of my first season playing this years version of the game. It was a long summer but I managed! We finished first place in the division and 2nd overall in the AL to Houston. Donaldson won a silver slugger and was close to getting another MVP. Aaron Sanchez took home the Cy Young award. I beat the Angels (I know right) in the ALDS and lost to Houston in 4 straight heartbreakers in the ALCS.

Let Bautista walk in the offseason and resigned EE to a 2 year 40M contract. Bautista went to Colorado on a 1 year deal while Saunders also took 1 year to play with the Pirates. To replace Bautista and Saunders I signed Jay Bruce and Avasail Garcia to 2 year contracts. I also re-signed Raburn to face lefties. I signed Sean Rodriguez, Nick Hundley and Ryan Howard to round out the bench. Also signed some depth guys but that's the short version.

I plan to sim 2017 and start back playing 2018 to spice things up. Stay tuned!

Cubs take game 1 of the fall classic 8-3. The game was tied at 3 going into the bottom of the 8th but the Cubbies put up a five spot that include a grand slam by Soler.

How long will you guys give a player that is struggling to start the season, especially a young prospect that you were hoping would be an every day player? Gavin Cecchini batted almost .400 as a September call up last year in about 10-15 games, but through the first 10 games this season is batting an abysmal .061. I was hoping that he could come in and replace Neil Walker as my everyday second baseman, but so far I've been sorely mistaken.

Reyes and Cabrera are consistent, but beyond that my infield depth isn't exactly...deep. Cecchini has been a huge bust. Dilson Herrera has been a disappointment in the minors and I'm looking to trade him. Matt Reynolds can't bat over .200 at any level. Amed Rosario, who is my only glimmer of hope, has been called up to replace an injured Reyes and is batting .180 in about 5 or 6 games.

Love to hear your guys' thoughts and/or suggestions.

I just finished 2015 season with the Tampa Bay Rays. We lost out on the wildcard (2nd spot) the final game of the year to the Cleveland Indians. I lost to Toronto 8-3. They beat Boston as we were tied going into the last game. Our final record was 86-76. We had a firm grip on the wild card until late July when Kiermaier broke his wrist and missed two months. I had to platoon David DeJesus and Logan Forsythe in his place for two months and my offense and defense suffered. Boston won the division, KC won the AL Central, Oakland the AL West. The two wild card teams from the AL were the Tigers and Indians. It helped that the two worst teams in the the AL were the White Sox and Twins. In my division the AL East the last place team Toronto finished 80-82. In the NL the Mets won the NL East, The Cardinals the Central, The Dodgers the West. The two wildcard teams were the Nationals and Brewers. I don't remember how the playoffs went, but in the World Series the Royals beat the Mets 4-2. I'm about ready to start the offseason, but is there any thread in here that has tips or advice for offseason? I'm not too familiar with the process and I would like to keep my same franchise and start 2016. Only thing that sucks about this franchise is David Ortiz and Ichiro both retired after the year. I'm doing 30 team control. Thanks guys.

I just started 2019, year 6 of my Cubs franchise. I play every pitch of every inning of every game, gotta love carryover saves.

After losing in the NLCS from 2015-17 I finally won the World Series in 2018! I kept my team pretty much in tact from last year only adding Dustin Ackley (FA), Jarrod Dyson (FA) and Andrew Miller and Josh Collmenter (T-NYY) to my MLB roster in the offseason. I also promoted my top pitching prospect, Ronald Chavez, an 84 OVR rated SP I drafted in the 2014 draft to my rotation.

My line-up stayed the same, Fowler CF, Heyward RF, Rizzo 1B, Bryant LF, Zobrist 2B, Baez 3B, Brandon Uchida C, Russell SS. With Ackley - UT, Dyson - OF, Barrett Willis - UT, Contreras - C, Almora, Jr. - OF as my bench.

My pitching staff is: Arrieta, Lester, Yvonni Gallardo, Barton Gonzalez and Ronald Chavez in the rotation. Carl Edwards, Jr, Ian Thomas, Collmenter, Grimm, Wade Davis, Miller and Rondon in the 'pen.

As I mentioned coming off of a 114 Win and WS victory season in 18 I felt pretty good bringing most of my roster back. They were mostly either under contract or controllable except for the ones mentioned above.

Well I couldn't have been more wrong!! So far I'm 3-7 with a league worst .216 BA and 30 RBI's. My pitching has been ok, aside from Rondon already blowing as many saves as he did all of last year.

I've moved 37 year old, .123 hitting Zobrist to the bench. Barrett Willis, a 2B by trade who I drafted in '15, hit .352 for me off the bench last year so Zobrist was on a short leash to begin with. More changes may start to come around game 15 or so if things don't start to pick up.

Neither one of those is a lot of sample size/opportunity. September, he played over his head, and now he's playing below his feet (or the ground for that matter).

Add them together for a little better idea. .400 in 10 games is about 40 AB, so that's 16 H. .061 in 10 games, another 40 AB or so, so I'll estimate about 2 hits.

So that's 18-for-80 (estimating). That's .225 - still poor, but not as abysmal as hitting less than a lot of pitchers.

In any case, I'd gave him a lot more time if at all possible, especially if he's the best option by talent (ratings, eye test) at the position. If by June he's still hitting around .220, I might move him to the bench and promote someone as starter at the position.

One thing, if he has a "cold" symbol, you might want to bench him until it goes away. It's tough to evaluate players with the influence of those hot/cold symbols since they seem to actually impact performance (hot can tend to play "above their weight" and stay hot, and vice versa) instead of just indicate good/poor recent play.

Also, evaluate his play. Is he hitting it hard, just getting unlucky (which is truly unlucky in this game since RNG is a sizable factor)? Is he just not getting good contact at all?

I'm impatient, I'd give him a month total and if he is stinking it up I'm finding a replacement until he develops. I feel like all my new guys start hot so the first ten games are not the best indicator or future performance.

Thanks for the advice, fellas. Like Boxboy, I'm also impatient, and I'm admittedly feeling the pressure coming off a World Series victory. I'm also getting impatient because my entire team can't seem to hit right now and I'm off to a 6-8 start. I think you're right KB, I need to give him some more time. It doesn't help that I've faced the Cubs, Nationals, Marlins (who are 12-3), and the Nationals again to start the season. If he still looks like he doesn't belong my mid-may or June then I'll send him down and turn somewhere else.

Chicago Cubs Franchise
August Update

The Cubs went 16-11 in August, coasting along as they hold onto the division lead in the NL Central. This included a 9 game winning streak with series sweeps against Oakland and the LA Angels. The Cubs have been carried of late by their pitching, mainly Jon Lester and Jake Arrieta, but Kyle Hendricks had a better month of August and having John Lackey back provided a boost to the Cubs rotation.

Mike Montgomery made a spot start in San Diego with Hendricks having to miss his start due to a blister. The Cubs wound up winning that game despite Montgomery only going 4 innings, but it prompted the Cubs to bring up Trevor Cahill and C.J. Edwards to give the bullpen a rest as they had been worked hard on the west coast road trip.

All in all, the month hasn't been overly eventful. The one injury note is that Chris Coghlan was placed on the 15 day DL due to a sore rib cage, but has since returned to the bench. Willson Contreras is due back just in time for the September call-ups, so he should see some playing time. Other call-ups include OF Albert Almora, SS Munenori Kawasaki, OF Ryan Kalish, OF Matt Szczur, 3B Jeimer Candelario, and pitchers Rob Zastryzny, Trevor Cahill, Mike Montgomery, Spencer Patton, and Zac Rosscup. It is also possible that Tim Federowicz and Matt Murton get some looks.

The following stats are through September 5th and the game played that day against Milwaukee:

In the playoff hunt, the Cubs are trying to hold off the surging Cardinals, who carried a nine game winning streak to end the month. The Cubs' lead has shrunk to 1.5 games, getting down to a half game at one point. The Pirates are still well within the hunt as well.
