And good luck vs the Mets, a tough Division series to face straight up!
We scored 647 runs and allowed 494 on the season, for a differential of 153 runs.

I have no idea how that fares in terms of league averages for differential, but I can tell you that we won a lot of low-scoring, 1-run games.

I think we're going to have a very tough series with the Mets, but I'm looking forward to the challenge!

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Another update, mid August, the Houston Astros are sitting at 72-42 8.5 games in front of the Seattle Mariners. The pickup of Drew Smyly was the last piece we truly needed.

A.J. Reed was finally called up to MLB. I have no words for him lol. Other than I waited too long to call him up (I am very reserved about bringing up prospects, I want them going crazy before they get the call to MLB). He is batting .353 with a .559 slugging. Granted this is through only 34 AB's but still.

Tyler White is currently still just doing OKAY. But he has gotten some playing time at 3rd base which makes him extremely valuable.

Colin Moran got sent back down to AAA when Valbuena came back, he was doing OK in the majors but I just didnt feel he was ready yet so I sent him back down.

Alex Bregman is tearing it up in AAA although he is in a cold streak he is batting .286 .

Jose Altuve is on pace to have his most home runs in his career this year sitting at 11.

Carlos Correa just continues to trend upwards batting .283 with 30 home runs he is slugging .544.

George Springer has gone ice cold and has seen his BA drop nearly 30 points over the past month.

Evan Gattis is still having an insane season with 28 home runs, the most in his career. .279 BA, best in his career and .493 slugging.

Preston Tucker got sent down to AAA, he just wasnt getting it done he was brought in as a pinch hitter when I needed some power and never got the job done.

Matt Duffy was called up as Scott Feldman was injured. I wanted to call up Moran but I dont want to waste another option.

Dallas Keuchel has been struggling as of late but his ERA is still 2.10 and WHIP is 0.93

Lance McCullers is still having a great season with a 2.60 ERA and 1.12 WHIP

Drew Smyly has done pretty good so far 2-1 (1 no decision but it was a win) since being traded to the team. he did get hurt and missed 1 start.

McCullers is currently 3rd in the Cy Young race.

Gattis is 3rd in the Gold Glove race for LF.

Gattis is 2nd in the Silver Slugger race for DH.

Correa is 1st in the Silver Slugger race for SS.

So far it only looks like Correa will walk away with an award but there is still plenty of baseball left.

The season is far from over but I want to start thinking about the off season. Gomez is expiring but I would like to keep him if he is willing to only sign for 2-3 years. Otherwise Springer will likely get pushed to CF and Ill put Rasmus in RF.

Doug Fister is off contract after the season I plan to bring him back if he is willing to take a cheap contract.

Rasmus unfortunately is expiring as well so I will likely resign him if possible.

I would like to bring back Pat Neshek if he is willing to take a 1 year deal.

Valbuena is off the team for sure just no place for him. Already going to have to trade Moran and likely White.

Im willing to bring back Castro but we will see how much he wants.

Other than that the next off season is going to be hectic as Altuve, Keuchel, Smyly and Gonzalez will be off the books. Gonzalez is the only one that may not be coming back. After that im going to be pretty much dead as far as my budget goes, thank goodness Correa is under contract until 2020.

        Garcia dominates...Cards beat Reds 4-0

Jaime Garcia pitched about as well as you could expect as he threw a complete game shutout against the Reds in Great American Ballpark. Garcia allowed 7 hits while striking out 9. He also had a day at the plate going 2 for 4.

Matt Holliday extended his hitting streak to 23 games with a 2 for 3 day that included 2 walks and 2 RBI's. Carpenter, Grichuk, Wong, and Garcia also had multi hit game.

Next up it will be Carlos Martinez facing Alfredo Simon in game 2 of the series.

Simmed to today's date in an Orioles franchise. It's been a rough season so far in Baltimore.

In Spring Training, Jonathan Schoop went down with a torn calf and will miss the first 1-2 months of the season. On April 10th, Chris Davis, who just signed a mega-extension with the club, went down with a broken ankle. He too will miss 1-2 months.

The injuries prompted Baltimore to sign free agent Steve Lombardozzi, as they weren't comfortable with their in house options. Yet he too went down with an injury ( a fractured arm) in mid April. Lombardozzi will miss 1-2 months as well.

Arguably the biggest blow came in late April, when budding star Manny Machado went down with a dislocated ankle. He is expected to miss the rest of the season. Machado's injury announcement wrapped up a brutal 8-17 month.

A shocking trade was announced in mid-April when Boston shipped Hanley Ramirez to Oakland for Chris Bassit and a prospect.

The Orioles stand at 12-25, last in the division.

          Current lineup:

          RF Paredes (.182 average)
          LF Rickard (.301 average)
CF Jones (.287 average, 7 HRs)
          1B Alvarez (.186, 6 HR)
          C Wieters (.250 average)
          DH Trumbo (.179 average)
          2B Flaherty (.295, 8 HR)
          SS Hardy (.234)
3B Michael Almanzar (called up from Norfolk after hitting over .300)

          Bench
          C Joseph (.227)
          Rf Kim (.149)
          CF Dariel Alvarez (.250)
          LF Walker (.246)

          SP Gausman (2-2, 2.60 ERA)
          SP Tillman (2-3, 4.40 ERA)
          SP Jimenez (1-6, 7.25 ERA)
          SP Despaigne (4.02 ERA)
RP Andy Oliver (called up after good performance in Norfolk, 1.35 ERA in 6.2 MLB innings)
RP Jason Garcia (3.29 ERA in 11.2 innings)
RP Brach (4.15 ERA in 13 innings)
RP Givens (2.66 ERA in 23.2 innings)
RP Matusz (4.60 ERA in 15.2)

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

The Dodgers have defeated the Mets 3 games to 1 to advance to the NLCS!

After losing the opening game of the series 5-3 courtesy of 3 Mets HR in the late innings, we ripped off 3 consecutive victories: 5-4, 4-3, and 8-1.

For the Mets, Cespedes stood out, hitting .357 with 2 HR and 4 RBI, but the rest of the team was unable to put up enough offense to compete.

For the Dodgers, we got lots of hits from Kike (.471), Seager (.333, 1 HR, 4 RBI), Crawford (.429), and Kendrick (.389). We got power from Pederson (2 HR), and Puig, Gonzalez, and Seager (1 HR each). And we got just enough pitching.

We now move on to face the hated Giants in the NLCS, and we have home-field advantage. Should be a great series.

The playoff atmosphere in The Show is noticeably different than the regular season, which is really cool. The games feel very immersive.

I feel like I should make a trade with my Astros before the deadline but I can't come up with anything that makes sense. The weak spots aren't really tradable guys and Valbuena over at 3rd is hitting 21 home runs, Jason Castro has like 14. I think by season 2 I might platoon Gattis as a catcher with Castro. Marwin Gonzalez got hurt so I sent Singleton down and I'm trying the White/Reed platoon at 1st now. I'm still figuring out how I'm going to implement Alex Bregman eventually. But I've got too many bodies and not enough spots. Pitching has sucked, Dallas Keuchel has been garbage, but Mike Fiers has been a Cy Young candidate with 10 wins. I really don't know who I want to let go?

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Just wrapped up the Home opening series at Wrigley and it did not go so well for the Cubs as our high powered offense struggled a bit vs the young Reds pitching staff and we dropped 2 out of 3.

                  Cubs vs Reds Game 1

                  Reds win 2-0

Not much to say here. Pitchers duel between Lester and Iglesias. On the first two pitches of the game Lester gave up a 2B to Hamilton followed by a HR to Suarez and that was it for the scoring. He settled down after, finishing with a line of 8.0 inn, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 H, 6 K, 1 BB for his first loss of the season. Iglesias went 6.1 scoreless and the bullpen did the rest. They combined to hold the Cubs to 5 total hits. Zobrist was 1-3 with a 2B and Bryant was 2-4.

                  Cubs vs Reds Game 2

                  Cubs win 4-1

                  Behind a strong pitching performance from John Lackey we bounced back and evened the series. Lackey went 7.0 inn, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 H, 10 K, 1 BB. Soler went 2-4 with a 2B and and a HR(3). Fowler went 3-3 with a 2B, 2 R, 1 RBI and a HBP. Rondon pitched a 1-2-3 9th for the save(3).

                  Cubs vs Reds Game 3

Reds win 5-2 and take the series 2-1.

The bats were cold as ice. Hendricks pitched ok, going 7.0 inn 4 R, 4 ER, 9 H, 3 K, 0 BB. He got no help though and we trailed 5-0 going into the 9th. With 1 out and no one on, Dexter Fowler and Anthony Rizzo went back to back to cut the lead to 5-2. Then Kris Bryant singled and Kyle Schwarber hit a 2B. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and the tying run to the plate, Jorge Soler struck out and then Ben Zobrist grounded out to second vs closer Caleb Cotham to end the game.

Just fyi, unless the game doesn't handle this correctly, only one option can be spent in any given year. So the 3 options you have on a given player actually fully cover 3 separate seasons. Once you spent an option on Moran for 2016, you can move him up and down for the remainder of the year with no further penalty.

Anyway, I'm enjoying following your progress.

You can't. What you can change is whether a player is "depth," "platoon," or "everyday." These statuses correspond to how you set your lineups in the depth chart. If a player is not assigned to start in any of the 4 combinations of the depth chart, he will be "depth." If a player is assigned to start in 1 or more lineups but not all 4, then he'll be "platoon." If a player is in all 4 lineups, he'll be "everyday."

That much you can control, so if a guy expects to be platooning rather than being a bench player, you can insert him as a starter in one or two of the lineups.

Players who want to be "All Star" or "Star" want to be starting AND performing at a certain statistical level. That's what you can't control. So if a player wants to be a "Star" and he's having a league average season, he'll be upset and you just have to deal with that. I like it because it replicates the phenomenon of guys being head cases or losing focus if they're not having success at the plate.

That's how it works best I can tell, anyway.

Test it to be sure the game handles it correctly, but that's how it's supposed to work.

I finally made a trade with the Astros shortly before the deadline. Got Martin Prado and a couple pitching scrubs in return for a package that was essentially reliever Will Harris, a AAA pitcher, and AAA 3rd baseman Matt Duffy. Platooning Prado against lefties. Probably won't keep him and Valbuena next year, but I'm trying to win now so the trade made sense to me. Picked up Brian Wilson too.
