No, it's because all of their pitchers' arms have exploded. Hence the point of this conversation.

Because everybody has a few aces whose arms go out before the deadline. Okay.

In terms of value as defined by contract, age, injury risk and skill?
Chris Archer and Gerrit Cole in the mix. Fernandez too if not for injury risks.

Archer good point. Cole is an injury risk, I'd say, and is subject to arb costs coming up. Rest of the guys are locked up.

There's so much good young pitching right now, damn.

Arrieta's not locked up. He's making $10.7MM after agreeing to avoid arbitration this year. Chatter about a long term deal, but Theo wants to see whether Jake's arm is still attached or not after last year 1st.

Arrieta might be 2nd best pitcher in the league though. His skill outweighs it, I think.

Well then why isn't Scherzer on there? lol

Older + massively backloaded contract. Would you trade two reasonable years of Arrieta for the right to pay Scherzer $35m in his age 35-37 seasons?

Is Pineda, Judge, & Mateo reasonable for Chris Sale?
I am NYY in this scenario.

Also looking to market Brett Gardner as a CF to San Diego w/ some prospects for Wil Myers to fill my young RF void

Me too. That's why I took Rua+ChiChi and took on Hamiltons contract for Dickey, Tepera and a 59(D) prospect.

Any Yankees package for sale probably starts with Severino.

I'd say Pineda is more valuable than Severino. That'd be a fine package.

Still not really endorsing realism on Sale trades just yet, though.

No way. Older than Sale and has major injury concerns. He's only pitched 2 full seasons since I think 2010.

In terms of skill he's more of a sure thing than Severino, which would be nice when dealing a guy like Sale.

I don't think it particularly matters either way, though.

What would be nice is a guy that can actually play. 2 full seasons in 5 years including not even playing at all in 2 of them is absolutely horrific
