If you feel like it's taking too long to progress, turn up the Dynamic Difficulty Sensitivity slider. as the description says, you'll promote (and demote) over twice as fast.
It measures progress by OPS, which means the more extra base hits (total bases) you get without making outs, the faster you'll move up. With that slider maxed, it doesn't take much more than a HR, double and a single or two to progress a level.
